Negative: I don’t love that you can’t wear a swimsuit in the onsen, but I understand.

Positive: Good location in Hirayu, nice room, big, nice private onsen. Felt kinda traditional.

Negative: Not being able to fully communicate in English with the reception created some friction. Not sure why it's not a given for a hotel to have people in the reception with good English. Also the dinner was disappointing, I would definitely not recommend it. (I also didn't like the lack of options for breakfast - traditional Japanese breakfast is a bit too weird for me - fish and veggies?!)

Positive: A really beautiful hotel with many details thought of. So many complimentary things offered which really enhance your stay from the robes and slippers you change into when you arrive, ice lollies after the onsen, noodles in the evening, marshmallows for roasting on the terrace, it feels like the staff really want to go the extra mile to surprise and delight you. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable and the onsens themselves an amazing experience that we all loved, even our children age 10,12 and 14 enjoyed them. The food was very traditional and incredibly special with exceptional presentation. The dinner is expensive but a real treat for the senses. I highly recommend the breakfasts as well. We took the bus to Kamikochi for easy hiking/walking which was perfect. All in all the most perfect start to our Japanese adventure. I’m so glad we had some time in the mountains before Kyoto and Tokyo. Most staff speak some English but google translate is helpful if you need to say more than the basics!

Positive: The private bath and the overall atmosphere. It was a very nice break after visiting Tokyo. They also had complementary noodles (10:00-11:00 pm), which was great. Drinks available in the lounge.

Negative: Our room was very far from reception and there was no one to help (it was in a floor with no elevator). The layout was a bit confusing, even though the staff was helpful. It would be helpful to have more information. About the facilities and amenities.

Positive: This was such a unique and great experience of the hot springs and the Japanese food. Their presentation of the food was like art. The atmosphere was peaceful and beautiful.
