Positive: Imasha made us feeling so welcome in Sri Lanka! The stay is located very close to the national park; there is even a small lake in where you can observe some buffalos. The food is amazing! We had the bbc chicken and the vegetarian sri lankan rice&curry. In the night, we had dinner outside with a starry sky. He is offering safari tours by himself as well. All in one, it has been an amazing stay at Yala Jungle Haven. We would love to come here again!

Negative: The shower is cold in the morning and evening, during noon time it's warm. That is actually not a real problem since it is hot anyway.

Positive: This is not just a place to stay, it’s a whole experience! We loved staying on the edge of the national park and seeing all kinds of animals nearby. We also did the safari with the host which was amazing and we got to see a leopard! The room was super clean too. The campfire bbq dinner on a rock was really cool and delicious food.

Negative: It is very far from the centre of Yala, so make sure you take plenty of snacks! The host provides lots of water, dinner, tea before the safari, fruit etc but the cost is quite high for dinner. Also note there is no hot water or wifi :)

Positive: The location is right in the middle of jungle/ forest and a dirt road to get to the property. If you are looking for a private camp site right in the middle of jungle this is it. The accommodation is in rustic huts with good anti mosquito nets and private toilet and shower with a fan to keep cool. The food was very good and cooked right in the camp. With a log fire during evening meal. The forest sounds were excellent and no traffic any where near.

Negative: The road into the camp could be made slightly better. But apart from this there is not anything negative to say. It depends on people expectations of being on a camp in the middle of jungle.

Positive: Yala Jungle was one of the most incredible experiences of our honeymoon in Sri Lanka. A literal stone's throw from the national park, Thusara the host gives you one of the most personal stays you can hope to expect. The accommodation is basic and prepare for lots of wildlife during your stay (you are beside the national park!) We stayed two nights, where Thusara prepared a candle lit dinner for us while watching the sunset and stars, as we tucked into some free range BBQ chicken, and the most delicious local buffola curd dessert. One of the best parts of the experience was the national park tour. Thusara woke us up with coffees at 4.30am and we ended up being 5th in the queue when the park opened for the morning (5th out of literally 100s of jeeps). With ~45 minutes, he had taken us to a remote part of the park, where he was the first guide to spot a leopard sleeping in a tree. We had a fantastic 5 minutes of watching the leopard on our own, before others cottoned on and an onslaught of jeeps headed to our spot 🤣 Beyond the "poster board" animals, Thusara named and spotted around 40 animals during our day long safari. He was especially attentive when we showed interest and made sure to stop the jeep to take any pictures. My partner was struggling with bad sun burn when we went on the tour, and Thusara went to the extent of going to his home in town, and cutting us up a mammoth amount of Aloe Vera, which helped greatly. All in all, this is one of the most personal, authentically wild, experiences you'll look to have in Sri Lanka. We hope to be back soon! (PS, Browny the dog was great company for our sunset dinners)

Positive: We wanted to stay close to the park with the feeling of being inside it and being close to nature and the animals, and Yala Jungle Haven delivered on all fronts! You’re in the middle of nature, so don’t be spooked when a salamander or lizard walks around the room and leaves some droppings or tiny frogs enter and jump around. They are harmless and make it the full experience. There’s also a small crocodile in the pond next to the room and in the morning we had a water buffalo in it and a peacock on top of the tree. You won’t have aircon or hot water as there’s only one generator but there’s a fan and a mosquito net if you need to open the windows and it’s hot enough to enjoy the colder shower. The owners, Tushara and his parents, are amazing and do everything they can to make you feel at home. The food is freshly prepared and delicious, definitely the bbq chicken (a bit pricey compared to other areas but makes sense as shops are not close and everything is made from scratch). You eat dinner on the rock where you can look at the stars by the fire and a bit higher up you can go watch the sunrise/sunset. Sometimes an animal that can walk under the fence for elephants (monkeys, wild boar, leopard, …) walks by. We saw the first two. Breakfast in the hut is also amazing as a giant squirrel joins you to ask for a banana. Tushara knows a lot about the environment and animals as he has been a guide for over 25 years, so you can ask him anything. We did the full day safari in Yala National Park with them which was also a great experience. We got to see 2 leopards, 40 elephants, 3 crocodiles, many antilopes, spotted deers, birds, water buffaloes, mongoose, monitor lizards, … Unfortunately Tushara couldn’t come with us because the generator broke and he had to stay to fix it, so his cousin came with us. Although he was a man of little (English) words, he made sure we saw a lot of animals and tried to explain what he could.

One of the most unforgettable moments was the amazing dinner we had on the rock, with a fire burning beside us under the open sky—it was truly magical and unlike anything I've experienced before. Positive: An incredible nest right inside the jungle! we spent 2 amazing days! the owner Thushara welcomed us with fresh coconut water and lead us around the property in the nature for a walking tour. He offered us tea/coffee and fresh fruit every time we came back from excursions and in the morning too💓 they kindly provided us anything we needed, including transports and we had amazing dinners around the fire under the stars ✨ super recommended !!! Visit this place and support these lovely people 🥰
