Negative: we didn’t book the half board room. the room size was very very small. I doubt there is space for travelers to open carry-on luggage. luckily, we were the traveling light backpackers. my friends book the half board room, which is wonderful the noise and the vibrant from road trucks were disturbing.

Positive: The cozy cabin is well equipped with a small kitchen and big fridge. It has 24 hrs video reception, fire pit and top balcony. Supermarket is right across the street. Bus stop is 5 mins walk. Everything is good. For those who are coming to Komanokodo for the first time, remember that some bus only runs two or three times a day, please plan your schedule wisely or you might lose a lot of time waiting.

Positive: This accommodation was a prime example of high tec everything. The room had absolutely everything you can imagine provided with all the latest innovations. This does make it a little difficult due to the language issue so be sure to have google translator ready. Dinner and breakfast is provided and it is fabulous - on arrival we found all the fresh ingredients waiting in the fridge to make hotpot, plus fresh buns and jam for breakfast. Great outdoor area so we could take it all outside and then able to relax in a hammock into the evening. Also very comfortable beds, plus great to be able to wash our clothes ready for the trek again the next day, while having a soak in the bath. Also there is a supermarket right across the road where you can get absolutely everything you need. It our opinion it was expensive but we loved it!

Negative: On arrival we found the check in process a little confusing and had to contact staff on the ipad provided (it is a contactless reception). The person that answered spoke very quickly, with a strong accent that we could not understand. He responded to our question and instantly hung up with us having absolutely no idea what was said or what to do next. Frustrating considering the amount we paid for this accommodation. He should take the time to attend to guests and answer all/any questions we may have.

Positive: It’s an interesting concept though I felt that it is very overpriced for what you are getting. I needed a property for my Kumano Kodo hike and this was available. Since there are not many accommodations in this area, I had to accept the high price. The property consists of refurbished shipping containers that are arranged in a gated community. Rooms are equipped with a kitchen area, shower, and a toilet. There is also a combined AC/heater machine to control the temperature. The property is sparking clean and the beds are comfortable. In terms of negatives, there is no person on site. You need to register on the iPad and then do a Skype call with someone on the other side. Once they are happy with your answers, you get a code to access your room. It took me multiple tries to reach someone; I presume they were on a break. This delayed my check in by about 15 mins. Also, there isn’t much by way of facilities. There is a washing machine/dryer and a fire pit. They also have a pizza oven , though I don’t know how often one makes pizza in Japan. The smoke from the fire pit travelled directly into my room so this brought back fond memories of forced camping trips. Overall, this is a solid accommodation but I felt that it is too expensive for what is provided.

Positive: Very modern and western facilities.

Negative: It felt very impersonal and un-Japanese to have a self check which was difficult to manage as other guests have stated. I chose this place as it was the only one available to do the Kumano Kodo Trail. It was very expensive for what you got. My room option included a snack pack for the trail and though I gave them one week’s notice, they told me to find my own vegan snack at my own cost. I had to debate this point and they eventually supplied a muesli bar. For the cost of money, I felt the service was very poor. PS The communal outdoor area was useless during rain as there was no undercover area.
