Positive: We walked the Kumano Kodo and if you are as well you know there are sections where you need to make a choice on where and what location to stage up for the end of one day and the beginning of the next. Our stay at Guesthouse Okagesan was fantastic, for sure a highlight of many highlights on our trip. The 140 year old traditional Japanese style guesthouse was really neat and peaceful, with a private onsen near by if you like. And, a 2 minute walk from the guesthouse is the owner's Yakitori restaurant, which is FANTASTIC! I'm pretty sure no one would know about this place unless you either lived in the area or while walking the Kumano. The owner is very kind and helpful as well.

Positive: The room is an antique Japanese room with renovation. Really awesome with all traditional decorations. Very comforatble and impressive. The host is nice and explain how to use the device in the house. He opens a BBQ chicken restaurant nearby, you need to go there to get the key. Food in restaurant is also awesome! Really relaxing place. But becareful when you arrive after 6pm as the part of the way to the house is really dark without street light. Better prepare torch.

Positive: A charming home which preserves the traditional essence of an old Japanese house while adapting to the needs of modern lifestyle. It has the heating solutions to keep us warm and cozy on a peaceful winter’s night. And we love the village! Really wish we could stay longer. One of the best memories of our trip.

Negative: The hallway to the bathroom had an opening which was only covered with a curtain. A little upgrade would be great. That part of the house was not heated but didn’t affect us so much.
