Positive: The owner was kind and made sure to remind us to eat after the train ride, recommended restaurants as well as made sure we had essentials for the next couple of days. He did pick us up from the train station. The family room was clean, with a beautiful view of the mountains and fresh linens.

Negative: I didn't know there was a terrace I could use upstairs to get tea, water or heat up food. The location is isolated and not so close to the main strip where you can easily go to shops and restaurants. The owner was available instantly on WhatsApp if we needed anything, but there's nobody downstairs constantly attending to the place.

Positive: Breakfast was OK , room was roomy .

Negative: Carlos told us a few days earlier , but much much after the booking , that a few steps need to be taken before we reach the room . Turned out to be 100 steps , which means around 6 to 7 storeys . Even tho we had minimal baggage , was exhausting . At time of check-in , we were told to either pay cash or 5 % extra with credit card . This came out of the blue to us . Breakfast passable . Had asked the previous night where we go for it - no reply . Next morning , waited at the ground floor , then the lady came to tell us it was on the 6th floor . No lift / elevator . Poor communication after we checked in , tho quite OK before .

Positive: Picos house is near the train station we would find but the owner Carlos was waiting for us at the station which was easier. The room was spacious, but with a view of the rooms of the neighboring house. There was a nice view from the terrace (which was being renovated), but it was a bit cold during breakfast in the spring.

Negative: The shower was very small and there was a sink right in it. The water was not hot enough. Breakfast consisted of exactly 4 pieces of bread. To keep my husband from going hungry, I had to give him my portion of one egg. No juice, salami or vegetables, I'm not even talking about cereals. We also had to literally ask for the jam so we wouldn't eat dry bread. Milk for coffee, forget it. There were plenty of apples and bananas. I guess we all had a different idea of what breakfast is. After a month-long trip through South America, we call it Carlos' frugal breakfast.

Summary: that it would only be a different idea of the perfect accommodation?

Positive: The owner was very kind and helpful. He picked us up from the train station and guided us to the hotel. He also gave us good advice on hiring a tour guide and let us store our bag there during the day for free while we went up to Machu Picchu.

Negative: The bed was not super comfortable and the breakfast was fairly limited, but it’s also one of the more affordable options in Aguas Calientes.

Summary: A great and affordable option if you are visiting Machu Picchu!

Positive: Picos house is located walking distance from the train station and but outside from the noisy aguas Calientes. Carlos was super attentive and even wait for us ar the station. The house is new and it has the best terrace where you can seat and relax, have breakfast and enjoy the amazing views. We travel with our 4 yearly old daughter and she loved it. Carlos even has toys in the terrace and the house is located few steps from an amazing playground populated with local kids. We all had a great time and highly recommend it. Gracias Carlos !

Positive: The host was very helpful, meeting me at the train and taken me straight to the machu picchu with no troubles which i had already booked in advance and became my guide automatically 😀

Negative: A bit less choice for breakfast. My understanding is that I was the only guest in the house

Positive: Carlos went above and beyond to help us with everything. This was low season so he gave us all his attention during our stay. He even gave us an extra room for our 2 nights (free of charge) since a crib could not be accommodated. He appears to be the only one available on premises so he was responsible for making us breakfast, checking us in, picking us up from the train station (nice gesture). The view from the rooftop was breathtaking and worth every step you take to reach the hotel.

Negative: Quite a few things unfortunately. The sheets appear to not have been changed recently ( found dead spider, hair, etc..). There was no hot water option in the water faucet. For showers, you need to open the shower for a good 10-15 minutes before you jump into the shower, it takes a while to reach a fair temperature (never close to hot). The bathroom itself smelled a bit of sewage (not detectable in the room if you close the door). TV was half busted, so you could only see half the screen, needless to say not connected to any station, so we streamed from our phone to the TV.

Summary: It was ok for our 2 night stay.
