2 Bedroom House in Cradle Mountain

Our place is near Cradle Mountain National Park, on 100 acres with a creek (with platypus), natural springs and native alpine rainforest. The landscape is incredibly beautiful, with an abundance of wildlife and serenity.
The house is one of the only properties in this area where one can self-cater. It suits two couples or a small group or family unit. One room has a double and two single beds, the other has a queen bed, as well as a short daybed with trundle that could sleep two small children. The house has a new bathroom, with a deep cast iron bath, a new shower, a separate WC (on new septic) and a solid Tasmanian oak basin by renowned Tasmanian furniture designer Laura McCusker
It has taken us six years to restore this highland house . We are very proud to be able to share it now. When we found the shack in 2010, it was in a poor state, virtually derelict. Its original single room had been extended to add two rooms; it also had a series of corrugated sheds nearby. The timber shingle roof had been covered in corrugated iron. Despite at least 70-80 years’ intermittent habitation, it had no power, kitchen or bathroom when we started.
Our aim was to restore and adapt it for modern use, but also to preserve its unique appeal and integrity as a High Country shack. Where possible, we have re-used materials (demolishing then rebuilding much of the shack), or used recycled materials like corrugated iron and timber, the mid-century kitchen and the bathtub from elsewhere.
We use it as a family house, and we enjoy cooking and walking. We have a lot of DVDs and games (some very old-fashioned) for wet weather, and the Tassie Barrell wood stove means stews can be slow-cooked and marshmallows roasted

Summary: Staying at Bull Plains was the absolute highlight of our Australian holiday. We stayed with our daughters who are in their 20s and we all fell in love with it. It has been lovingly, tastefully and authentically restored. The owners have thought of everything and it is exceptionally well equipped and comfortable. The icing on the cake is the location, surrounded by beautiful bush, with wonderful and varied flora and fauna and a host of native animals and birds. The photos do not do justice to this magical house. It offers easy access to Cradle Mountain National Park which is only 15 minutes away. We stayed for 4 nights which gave us 3 full days to explore the Park, which felt the right amount time to explore the main trails. We don’t think you can find anything better this gorgeous house.

Summary: This house was a joy to stay at. It was cosy, comfortable, well-stocked, and just a perfect place to wind down. Mornings on the porch with a cup of tea watching the mist rise across the land were glorious, especially on the days when the resident pademelon hopped over to say hello. Genevieve is helpful, responsive and lovely. Thanks very much for a wonderful start to our Tassie trip.

Summary: Don’t let the “Shack” appearance nor name fool you. Inside is more modern amenities than other “luxury” homes. Towel warmers in bathroom, and bed warmers and fully outfitted as any home. I would stay here again. Even came with a “pet” wild wallaby who shows up for coffee on mornings and wineoclock asking for her share of snacks.

Summary: We all loved, the seclusion, the landscape, the wildlife, the homey comfort, the proximity to Cradle Mountain, comfy beds, well stocked kitchen, great claw foot bath, games and jigsaw puzzles too.

Summary: Bull Plains was all we'd hoped for and more. The property was stunning to wander and explore, while the house took ample care of our creature comforts. We only wish we'd booked to stay longer. Our kids loved it so much they wanted to move in! And we didn't turn the tv on once. My favourite moments were taking a chair from the verandah, sitting in the afternoon sun and soaking in the nature all around me. Genevieve was an excellent host, making sure we got access instructions and responding promptly and with care when a small issue arose. Thoroughly recommend this stay to anyone wanting to get off the well worn tourist track and immerse themselves in a little piece of Tassie wilderness.

Summary: It really didn't matter what the weather was up to we were so comfortable inside. Beautiful bush block to explore and a short drive to Cradle Valley and many other walks. We had the best time.

Summary: Lovely and well restored tinny house. Well furnished with all you need for cooking, to set up the fire, and even an high chair for a baby. The highlight was the neighbours… no one, expect some kangaroos who came out on the evening to eat the grass - was amazing! Highly recommend this house and would love to come back.

Summary: Rustic cabin on the outside and the necessary amenities on the inside. Comfortable layout with delightful verandah where we enjoyed long summer evenings. The property has some short pleasant walks. Genevieve is a generous host, very easy to communicate with.
