Positive: Location is everything! The view from the terrace, the pittoresque town, all so beautiful! Lovely restaurants in walking distance. The house is nicely decorated,the kitchen well equipped. Friendly and responsive owner.

Negative: The 2 ( seperate )beds in one of the bedrooms were too hard. I prefer my matrass firm, but this was spartan. Actually woke up sometimes with an aching shoulder or hip. My partner had the same complaint. Room was fully dark because of shutters which we liked. The matrass in the other bedroom was much better but in that bedroom there are windows over the bed without curtains, so if you need a dark bedroom,this bedroom is not for you.

Summary: Amazing location, cosy house, responsive owner with good English, poor bed.

Positive: The location was absolutely stunning, we loved sitting outside on the terrace and enjoying the lovely view on Monsaraz. Every morning, the garden cats came to greet us. Check-in was very easy thanks to the host. Everything is fully equipped in the small house.

Negative: There is quite a serious humidity problem in the small house, mostly in the bedroom. When entering the house, you immediately smell a humid odour. The wall of the bedroom is humid: stains are visible, the smell is worse there, you also feel it when you touch the wall. If this wasn't an issue, we would have rated 9/10. For us, personally the bed was too hard.

Summary: Lovely view and location, serious humidity problem.

Positive: Really beautiful spacious house with 2 terraces with gorgeous view and a garden which though we could not enjoy as much as we would have wished due to rainy weather. But we enjoyed our stay nevertheless. The house is inside the fortified village, but still could drive at the door to drop off the luggage and then park at the free parking just at the entrance to the village.

Negative: Missed the central heating as it got a tad chilly during our stay, but I suppose usually it is not necessary. We made a fire in one of the fireplaces to warm up which was even more romantic than central heating.

Positive: The terrace and sunset views were out of this world. The view was just as good in the morning when several hot air balloons and paragliders were being flown from the plain below over the hilltop town. A beautiful and tranquil place to enjoy your morning coffee, and evening sundowner. The local stray litter of adorable kittens being fed from the garden was a totally heart melting bonus! Free parking just outside the main arched gate was very simple and convenient - a short, mainly flat 200m walk to the door from the nearest spaces. Excellent communication from the host. The accommodation itself has all the comforts you need, excellently equipped kitchen (bring groceries with you as the town doesn't have a supermarket, only boutique speciality food stores). The apartment was spacious and decorated with quality artisan items, natural materials and the hosts art collection. It has an authentically portuguese rustic yet stylish aesthetic. We felt right at home.

Negative: The hot water in the shower decided to slow to a trickle while we had the dishwasher running which was a little annoying. It's a very old building (as are all in the village) with some diy eccentricities (one electrical extension cable in the kitchen caused particular anxiety) but these are well worth tolerating for the location and view. I would not advise driving down the narrow cobble street to the door to drop luggage, as suggested by the owner, unless you have a tiny car or are a master of reversing backwards past tourists and shop sandwich boards! Better to drop off outside the main gated arch and unload and then walk the short 150m to your door.

Summary: Unforgettable views. Tranquil, cultural, authentically portuguese. Also KITTENS!
