Positive: The accomodation was really nice, we really liked the jungle-vibe of the place. The host was rather nice and helpful, he helped us tinker our plan and even helped us arrange transportation to the next accomodation. The breakfests were excellent. Should we ever come back to Ella we would stay there again!

Positive: We spent two nights at Spice Lodge in Ella and it was simply spectacular. The room was super comfortable — honestly, some of the best nights of sleep we’ve had in Sri Lanka. Breakfast was outstanding, freshly prepared by Kamal’s mother, and we highly recommend the cooking class with her and Kamal’s sister, which was a wonderful experience. The homestay has a very warm and family atmosphere, everything is spotless clean, and the location is just perfect — only 20 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by tuk-tuk from Ella center, right at the starting point for the Nine Arches Bridge and also a great base for Little Adam’s Peak at sunrise or sunset. Kamal was the perfect host, always kind and helpful. He even took us on a tuk-tuk trip to a waterfall about an hour from Ella, which was an unforgettable experience. In short: great location, great service, spotless cleanliness, and a truly authentic homestay experience. Highly recommended!

Negative: Internet works fine for tourists. Maybe not for zoom calls

Positive: This was a lovely location, away from the Crazyness of the main town in Ella, very tranquil with lovely views! I would recommend ordering the home cooked curry from Kamal for dinner, he needs a couple of hours to prepare but it’s so worth it! Delicious home cooked curry!

Negative: The rooms overlook another property’s garden so the big windows don’t allow for total privacy, but you can just close the blinds.

Summary: Tranquil, traditional stay in a great location!

Positive: Very nice place to stay, with a kind and helpful host and her family. Location is perfect, right between the must-see attractions of Ella and the city centre. This ensures you can do everything by foot, while still enjoying the serene suroundings of the accomodation. Clean, excellent breakfast and very spacious. Absolute topper in cost for value!

Negative: WiFi isn’t top, but seems to be a general thing in Sri Lanka.

Positive: The Spice Lodge is the most beautifully designed place - simple and stylish, with chairs positioned to look out onto perfect greenery. The family made me and my mum so so welcome, going above and beyond to help us and make us feel comfortable. The breakfast is amazing, but we also choose to have dinner at the lodge on both nights - and were treated to the best Sri Lankan food we’d had all trip! We would recommend the Spice Lodge to anyone…and they’re also planning to start cooking classes, so we’re planning to come back :)
