Positive: Set in a stunning location on the banks of the Mekong River, with a truly beautiful sunset in the evenings. Just a short walk from the city center. Very friendly and helpful staff, and a lovely design throughout the hotel.

Negative: It advertised a Happy Hour (5-7pm), on their app, when there wasn’t one!

Positive: The property had a beautiful view of the Mekong River. The pool area was very nice and the gardens well kept around the property. We loved the elephant sanctuary and the preservation of the forest associated with it. Great work!

Negative: For a high-end hotel like this, we would have expected better quality of food. The set menu was very disappointing and very much overpriced for what was offered. We had better street food than that. We felt the same about breakfast. I am surprised that management doesn’t notice this. I did read quite a lot of complaints like that in the reviews. There was a second restaurant on the property which was actually very good but unless you know about it you are not being told about it because it is meant for the superior deluxe room guests. We found out from other hotel guests. Staff was polite but very reserved, and hardly understood any English.

Positive: A really beautiful place with well equipped comfortable rooms. Free drinking water is available outside the rooms so you do not need to buy plastic bottles and the vegetable gardens on the banks of the Mekong are a joy to behold. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy the sunset after the long boat ride from Houayxay. The food in the restaurant is great. The cookery course was a lot of fun and the icing on the cake was our visit to the elephant park opposite the hotel. This is a well run park where rescue elephants are being rehabilitated into a more natural way of life. You cannot ride the elephants (which is very good news as we all know that riding is bad for the elephant) but you can observe them from close quarters under the supervision of very knowledgeable guides. You must book two nights in Pakbeng if you want to see the elephants as the public boat gets to the pier at around 4-4.30pm
