Negative: Steep footpath up to our room. Owner had limited knowledge of the area. It is really set up for English speaking visitors with a car and a predefined plan. The owner does not speak Spanish and has no local insights.

Positive: Very nice maya bungalow, the bed is excellent, the room was clean. The breakfast was excellent, the owner is a super English lady, who really care for her guests. It was a pleasure to chat with her over the breakfast.

Negative: It is not something that I didn’t like, I write down, so you know. The hotel is actually at the edge of jungle, and tha maya bungalow has banana leaf roof, so insects can come to you room. In our room we had big grasshoopers. If you are sensitive to animals, bring a mosquito nest with you, because there is beam above the bed and you can hang it. We have even seen a tarantulla on the wall of the hotel. These type of tarantullas are not poisons. It was a beautiful animal. My recommendation is, don’t miss this nice hotel, but be prepared for insects comming to your room because it is realy close to the jungle.

Negative: Location on main road I found the message from someone before I arrived telling me how to behave ,and the numerous messages around the property telling me how to behave while I was there extremely offensive . Unique experience for us and we have travelled a lot!

Positive: Valerie Pickles who set up The Pickled Onion has done an Amazing job to create a wonderful place to stay. There are 8 thatched huts situated in a tropical garden with winding paths & benches to sit on. A delicious breakfast is included in the outside restaurant & there is another covered restaurant for tasty meals during the day including dinner up to 20.00. We had delicious Mexican fusion dinners here all three evenings. Good to have some vegetables served! After both mornings sightseeing at Uxmal & The Choco -Story the first morning then Kabah, Labna & Mani the second morning we enjoyed relaxing by the poolside & having refreshing swims & listening to the birds in the garden. It was a little cool at night end of January but blankets were provided. Had to wear earplugs due to the barking dogs at night! Maybe I am a light sleeper! The staff have been with Valerie for many years. She has trained them well. Muchas gracias for a wonderful stay to Valerie & the team.
