Positive: Staying at this amazing inn gave us a authentic Japanese experience. The private onsen was spa like and the bonus of the starry nights tour just added to the whole experience.

Negative: The authenticate food may not be to everyone’s taste but I really enjoyed it.

Positive: What a gorgeous property, nestled in the mountains with beautiful views! We were lucky enough that it was snowing lightly our last morning there, and it made for such a picturesque experience, watching the snow fall on the garden outside. This is a great place to go if you need some R&R in the mountains away from the cities and crowds. We loved the dinner and breakfast, and we thought the service and staff were EXCEPTIONAL. The onsen is beautiful, and our room was huge -- pretty rare to see a room that large in a Japanese hotel! This is a great spot to get a more upscale-feeling ryokan and onsen experience, but at a reasonable price.

Negative: Parts of the building are showing a bit wear and tear (like older carpet in the hallway) but the room and onsen were in perfect shape.

Summary: Beautiful escape from the city.

Positive: The staff were very friendly, responsive and helpful. The ryokan even organised a free stargazing tour for guests which was very enjoyable. Food was great as well. All in all a very enjoyable experience at a traditional ryokan.

Positive: Wonderful staff members, really friendly and memorable! They catered to my dietary so well which was so appreciated and a difficult thing to find in Japan, can be hard to not eat meat. Loved the private onsen experience, we did the star tour too which was really cute, and went for a late night dip in the main onsens (women’s one was empty so it was amazing to have it completely to myself!). Overall a really wonderful part of our trip.

Negative: Very much in need of an upgrade, it is in the process of some renovations at the moment so hopefully that is going to improve the property. The location is out of the way, a bit far from the sights we wanted to see. But that’s more our fault for not checking this properly when we booked. Expensive to stay here, it was the most costly place in all of Japan we stayed and it was only one night. A better pre check in process would be ideal, we got there about an hour early before check in after a long drive, all the lights were off, staff seemed really shocked by us being there and wouldn’t take our bags off us. Just little details could be improved to make the experience more premium.

Summary: Very cute traditional experience, the property really needs an upgrade though.
