Positive: Beautiful views, very spacious room (even has a kitchen unit included!), lovely staff, great veggie restaurant attached, great location in TukTuk with lovely coffee spot and pub nearby. All in all, great value for money also. Would highly recommend!

Positive: We spent 1 week at Mario’s and absolutely loved our stay! The apartment was huge, very clean, well maintained and had everything we needed, including ample hot water, a water refill, a fridge, basic kitchen utensils, a bedside lamp, comfy pillows and plenty of shelves. Kate, Ali, Mario and the boys from the restaurant were most welcoming and helpful. Lots of other positives: - Excellent location - walking down just a few steps to the lake to swim - Paddle boards to rent - Mario was very helpful getting them ready whenever requested - Boats from Parapat drop off and pick up at Mario’s own jetty - super easy to get there - Amazing bird watching right from the terrace - we saw kingfishers, egrets, barbets, bulbuls, sunbirds and green Sumatran pigeons daily - The well maintained garden with lots of trees shows the owners’ care for the environment and wildlife - Food at the owners’ vegetarian/vegan restaurant above the apartments is amazing - we tried so many items on the menu throughout the week and every meal was exceptionally tasty - Great selection of board games in the restaurant - There is a laundry service within a 2 minute walk - There is a fruit/veg seller within a 5 minute walk - Scooter rental available if needed

Positive: Loved the cute little cottage with amazing lake view for a great price. Staff were super helpful, rented a scooter foe the day lovely restaurant above and a coffee shop near by. Right on the water really only a about 10 stairs from the ferry drop off.

Positive: Two bungalows with view of the lake (in the hammock) half way up (yes, many steps) between the lake and the restaurant at the main road. Owner has good knowledge of the island and you can rent a scooter to explore. Owner is waiting when you arrive by ferry, and will accompany you when you leave.

Positive: The rooms were simple but spacious and clean and with the hammock looking out over the lake the place is very nice. You can take a swim 5 meters from your door. The owners were amazing. Helping us with activities. Even driving us to different workshops. The restaurant is also very good! We had great halloumi wraps and breakfast.

Negative: The couch which functions as a bed is not super comfortable. Though the owner helped with improving the couchbed a bit with a topping layer. Which made it a tiny bit less bad. (For context: I am a very tall Dutch guy. For a child it’s completely fine)

Positive: It’s difficult to know where to begin reviewing this incredible accommodation. The communication from booking to departure was prompt and helpful The arrival smooth, as the apartments have their own jetty where you can be dropped very easily. Ali was waiting for me and carried my bag up the few steps to my spacious bungalow, with beautiful lake views from its terrace, bedroom and living room. There is a small kitchen with a fridge, sink and 2 gas rings. The bathroom includes a shower with ample hot water. Up the steep stone steps (with a handrail and motion-sensor lighting) you reach the road, where you can find many restaurants and a small but decent supermarket about 10 minutes’ walk away. Not that you’ll want to be making your own meals because the apartments’ own vegetarian/ vegan restaurant offers a great selection of dishes - all freshly made and delicious. The room itself is comfortable, with a large double bed above which are sockets and light switch and a mosquito net (although I didn’t see any during my 2-night stay). The wi-fi was excellent. It’s possible to swim in the lake from here, although I didn’t try, fearing that my limited mobility would prevent me from getting out again! Which brings me to the hosts - Katie and Ali; I have travelled a lot and have generally had positive experiences of accommodation, but I cannot recall anyone being as kind, helpful, generous and understanding as this couple. I had a knee injury, which wasn’t their problem but they went out of their way to ensure I was OK, even arranging alternative accommodation for me, so that I didn’t need to manage the steps. I was so sad to leave. This is simply an amazing place. Ali & Katie, thank you so much for your kindness and consideration.

Negative: I didn’t like not being able to stay there.
