Positive: This is such a lovey place/area to visit. Very small/quaint village. Some wonderful little shops, a great outdoor market on weekend, good food/restaurants. We had an issue with the toilet upon arrival but was tended to immediately. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. The Pub below/attached to the hotel was great, wonderful ambiance and good food.

Negative: Was quite disappointed with our room, old and dingy - did not look like any of the rooms we saw in pictures. If older people booking note we had to climb quite a few stairs to get to room (just mentioning as not sure if there are ground floor rooms or not?)

Summary: We did have a lovely stay and enjoyed our couple of days here and as I said, staff were wonderful!

Positive: We booked a two night Friday/Saturday night stay to visit relatives for my husbands birthday. Great character pub with rooms, our room was larger than expected, all very clean and comfortable with lovely bathroom, great toiletries provided. Fabulous breakfast but we paid for this separately as far cheaper than the booking.com option on booking.

Negative: Having never stayed in Berkhamsted before we didn’t realise how lively the weekend nightlife would be. The pub is situated on the High Street and our room overlooked the road at the front. It’s an old 18th century property and understandably has no double glazing or soundproofing. On booking we didn’t realise that the pub had a licence till 1am on the Saturday. It was extremely noisy from the bar music below the room and the noise from outside the pub and surrounding bars was unacceptable for the price charged. The price should be reduced on a Saturday night, not increased!!! I took ear plugs and could still hear the music. Early both mornings we were woken up with noise from road re market traders setting up so it was a double whammy, couldn’t even get a lie in.

Negative: On the first night, our tv would work. Rang reception, and the lady fixed it very quickly. Extremely pleasant staff throughout our stay. And the food in the restaurant was delicious

Positive: Very nice room and facilities. The evening meal and breakfast were excellent too.

Negative: There’s no car park, which is a big drawback. Also, the room was a bit noisy, both from the road and other guests.
