Our home is a large colonial farm home located on five picturesque acres and surrounded by hundreds of acres of farm land. Located 20 miles north of the MCI Airport between Kansas City and St. Joseph, MO, one has access to all the attractions and activities in both cities and everywhere in between.
Absolutely NO parties or events of any sort without prior approval from property owner. Barn is not included in property rental. Weddings at The Journey Home Event Venue cannot be booked via VRBO. Cropland surrounding property does not belong to us, absolutely NO TRESPASSING. A rental agreement is required for all stays and must be signed within 48 hours of booking or reservation will be cancelled.
The home boasts 16 rooms within its spacious 5,000 square feet including:
• 6 bedrooms which comfortably sleep 23 people total

• and a screened-in porch
Open acreage between the home and barn, allows your imagination to run wild. The grounds offer a large, level area that is as large as a professional football field. It can accommodate any outdoor event -- from an outdoor picnic to a football game at a family reunion.
With its location being 20 miles north of the Kansas City International Airport it provides the perfect location for out of town guests coming for any occasion.
It is also close to shopping in Weston, Zona Rosa, Atchison, St. Joseph, and is just 45 minutes from the Plaza. For guests who want to explore the area, we provide a list of restaurants and nearby shopping to make a fun experience as convenient as possible. We are close to several state parks, wineries, historical sites, museums, and sports arenas, race tracks, theme parks, and more.
For those who want to make the most of their time at the home, you may also cook your own meals in our gourmet kitchen or hire outside caterers. We have two ovens, two stoves, two refrigerators, a dishwasher, microwave, and ample counter space. We have dishes and silverware you may use as well.
For groups who do not have a specific agenda, we have books, games, and music that guests may borrow to enhance their experience. Free wireless Internet is available as well.
The house comfortably sleeps 23 adults. Our mattresses were custom-made by Hawn Bedding in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Sixteen of the beds are extra-long twins and the remaining four beds are unique bunk beds with attached stairs and plenty of storage. The extra-long twin beds can easily be joined to create a larger sleeping area.
Take in the fresh air and beautiful scenery that surrounds the home. You will find yourself stepping back into a piece of American history during a simpler time filled with sun-brightened days, warm afternoons in the shade, and natural beauty as far as the eye can see. Whatever the season, the home offers a relaxing and rejuvenating environment.
The home offers a warm, safe, beautiful environment where you can relax, get energized, brainstorm, or accomplish whatever you wish. When you reserve the home for the weekend, or the week, your group is the only one in the residence, which gives you complete privacy. However you spend your time, you can be assured that it will be a special personal experience. We believe your experience will be so positive that finding a reason to come back is all you think about as you drive away.
We do have a TV with Roku access so you may login to your subscriptions and a DVD player. **Use of the barn is not included nor is use of the garage.

Summary: We rented the Journey Home for our family get together after Christmas thru New Years. The house was enormous and just beautiful, with plenty of room for us all to spread out. There even was a lovely Christmas tree lit in the "ballroom" when we arrived! Gorgeous views of the surrounding property from all the windows was outstanding and we enjoyed exploring it all. With the cold weather, the fire pit was a big draw for making s'mores and the fully equipped kitchen made cooking easy. Julia was excellent and easy to work with and quickly answered all our questions. We would highly recommend this home.

Summary: ten highschool friends (class of 1964) meet every year at some location chosen by the group. Locations in the past reflect where the friends live and include: Estes Park; Keystone; Mt. Hood, Oregon; Catskill, New York; Millwood Virginia. This year we met in the middle of the country at The Journey Home in Dearborn, Missouri. Delightful accommodations and everyone had a great time.

Summary: Twenty-one members of our family came from Oregon, Utah, and Missouri for a family reunion. Besides visiting some Missouri sites, the kids loved playing hide-and-seek and other games inside the house as well as outside in the spacious yard. Even with 21 of us, The Journey Home provided more than enough beds. The cooks loved the 2 stoves and 2 refrigerators. We loved having a washer and dryer as well as a garbage dumpster.

Summary: I would highly recommend this property. It's been years since my family has been able to get together, and I was worried about finding a big enough place. This property was perfect for us...plenty of rooms with comfortable beds, huge kitchen, a separate area to eat in/play games, peace and quiet and a responsive host all made for a perfect gathering.
