Positive: Beautiful authentic traditional house, lovely garden, clean modern bathroom behind house, breakfast ok, guide Julius very good

Negative: Extremely poor water pressure in bathroom much of the time ( not enough to wash hands), house is a bit remote from town and felt a bit isolated, house not equipped with anything ( no cups, no drinking water provided), host a bit unprepared for our visit, didn’t like how guide’s boss appeared at our dinner when we had not asked for this, Quite noisy at night- family quite noisy til late and booming 430am Christian sermon can make sleep difficult

Summary: Ok for a brief stay- an authentic experience- but maybe consider splitting stay with another venue closer to town

Positive: Staying in a traditional Tongkonan - I didn’t really knew what’s it like when I booked it and now I can only recommend it! The family is so kind, they picked us up at the airport (it took us 3 times to get there, 2 landings where cancelled so we arrived one day later, thanx again for your patience, Mama and Papa Valen), organised a great guide for us - Piter knows everything about the Toraja culture and Yusuf also - and Mama Valen cooked such a delicious Christmas dinner. It was a pleasure and a honour staying at this family’s Homestay!

Negative: For us no problem, but - you need a motorbike or car/driver to get there and around - for elderly people it could be difficult climbing up the stairs to the bedroom

Positive: Everything! Mama and Papa Valen are very welcoming, we really felt like home in this relaxing place. It’s beautiful, cosy, comfy (including the bathroom which is modern and spacious). The food cooked by Mama Valen was super tasty. My nieces had great fun with Tesa and Mateo, their lovely kids! Chicken and dogs (and rhino beetles) also made our days, all being very friendly. They also put us in touch with Peter, an amazing guide and real storyteller who brought us in the Torajan history Thank you so much and selamat sukses selalu 🤗
