Positive: Unique luxury camping experience with a lovely and clean kitchen and common area. Beautiful views of the valley. Very comfortable tents. Food was excellent (need to order ahead of time)

Negative: A bit far from the train. Takes about an hour to walk and it's quite steep. Taxis available. More expensive than other hotels we stayed at iKiso valley

Positive: The owner was very nice. I had preordered meals and he cooked the dinner meal for us. There was a lovely foot baths even and the location has a fabulous view of the mountains in the distance. The facilities are clean. The yurt is a canvas circular tent - very roomy.

Negative: We visited in November and it was -5 Celsius over night. I had been very careful to confirm the tents were heated. Unfortunately the “night” oil heater did nothing at all. The “day” kerosene heater did not have a venting system for carbon monoxide. The bedding provided just was not enough to keep us warm.

Summary: Bring winter sleeping gear if cold weather.

Negative: A bit overpriced. You have to pay for everything extra (bath towel, dinner, breakfast, wood etc) when already the accommodation is on the expensive side.

Positive: This is a campground with great tents. We're traveling Japan out of a suitcase and all the needed cooking gear was there. It is located near the Nakasendo trail. If you're not bringing your own food, contact ties and you can order breakfast and dinner staples a day or two in advance of your stay. Host showed concern for us because of hot weather. I'd do this again in a heartbeat!

Negative: The weather was hot, but not their fault! All else was good.
