Positive: Location and room is generally nice

Negative: This hotel has a lot of work to do before the price is justified. The room was ready on arrival at 12pm (they mentioned no one stayed in it the night before) so they told us we could check in. They then handed us a bill to pay an extra $20 (after already spending $2500 for 3 nights) to check in to the already ready room just a couple hours early. But when questioning the charge politely, the staff member asked her colleagues. The other staff members spoke among themselves and then laughed and shook their heads. We understood in Japanese that they said to the staff member checking us in, “whatever just charge it anyway”, so that’s exactly what they did. It was only refunded after complaining to a manager later in the day. Breakfast is good and the staff there are very nice and professional. However, they have a Japanese option that is impossible to try as they only make 30 of them available per day. Why not just offer a pre-order of it instead of a lottery of who comes at 7am to rush for it? Additionally, cleaning was only done at 3pm-4pm (this is no fault of the cleaning staff, they did a great job). We had to ask in order to have it done early the next day. I would avoid any of the Gate hotel properties in Japan after this experience.

Positive: Breakfast was very good and the location is excellent.

Negative: The Fitness Gym. Very limited equipment. No weights and other machines for muscle building. Also only opens at 6am. Why not 24 hrs?

Summary: Having to pass by the 19th floor everytime you enter or leave the hotel was inconvenient.

Positive: Great view from lobby and lounge. Very clean. Good location above subway station easy transfer to Hakata Station. Very quiet. Free lounge access. Room and bath (corner double) were nice size and very clean.

Negative: Very quiet and extremely formal. As a solo traveler it was actually too quiet except for the outside noise in the room & lounge from construction across the street. It started very early and didn’t end until evening. Be aware. Ask for a room away from the construction.

Positive: Essentially it was all pretty great. Especially for the price. Great location directly above the subway, very nicely designed, nice views.

Negative: The gym was kind of a joke. Yes they have a gym, but it's like 4 cardio machines. Nothing else. Not a single weight or machine for strength... This soured my stay a bit...
