Positive: Great location. Close to the village and beach. Good value for the price. Private access to ocean. Quiet place, not very busy. They have an emergency power generator, to keep fan working during power blackout's.

Negative: It would be good if there would be a kettle in the room, to brew tee or coffe. Bottled water in Zanzibar doesn't taste good. Is probably lack of minerals, I've been drinking about 4 liters per day, and been thirsty constantly.

Positive: I had a wonderful stay at Tayana Place (next to Johari hotel). It’s a cozy and budget-friendly place that makes you feel comfortable right away. One of the things I loved most is that the stairs lead directly down to the water, so you can easily walk along the beach strip and reach the other restaurants nearby. The location is truly special. Sara was incredibly kind and welcomed me with so much warmth and care. She helped me with all my questions and made sure I felt at home during my stay. I was very satisfied and I’m definitely keeping this place on my list to visit again. Highly recommended! Don't mis Selaam Cave to meet with Monkey Selaam.

Negative: The WiFi was a bit weak in the room, but it’s common in Zanzibar and not just a place issue.

Positive: If you need to unwind in one of this Planets most beautiful spots and aren't too hung up on luxury, this place is for you. I had a great time and truly appreciated the kind, honest and helpful hosts, Sarah and Omi and their lovely children. Simply the best host family you could imagine. Also I enjoyed the food cooked and grilled by Sarah and Omi. Fresh Kingfish, Barracuda and Dorado. But what really knocked my socks off was Omis charcoal grilled octopus. Oh, and the breakfast is great. Good coffee, fantastic mango fruit, chapati bread, eggs and some variation from day to day, wich is not something you should expect in all Zanzibari hotels. Oh, and did I mention that from the fine terrace you step right into the Indian Ocean. And 500 yds to the west lies about 50 fishing dhows at their buys. An hour before sunset is a good time to enjoy the fleet sailing into the sundown. I had binoculars and a cold sundowner beer ready.. About noon the tide comes in and its time for swimming. You can get dolphin and snorkeling tours from the nearby village that also has some good and laid-back restaurants. There is no AC but a good fan in the room. I found that to be sufficient. I believe I'll go again January next and take my wife with me. I think it would also be a great place for young families with children.

Negative: I really can't think of anything to complain about. Maybe simply that I only booked 4 days. I think I'll go for a week next year.

Positive: The family that owns Tayana Place are welcoming, warm, and accommodating. The breakfasts they provided were always satisfying and filling. We also enjoyed the dinners they prepared for us.

Negative: The cooling system in our room barely kept the temperature cooler than it was outside. Our bedroom was furnished with two queen beds but nothing else. The steps down to the beach were much too high to allow my wife access.
