Positive: Super welcoming staff! Loads of local knowledge offered up with none of the familiar feeling of being sent here and there for kickbacks. Just a genuine wish to guide and share their knowledge and help us make the most of our time. The room was big! We got a bedroom, bathroom and a living room. Everything was clean and comfortable. The pool was great, as we were here to relax before going home, so having the option to read in the hammocks, while still taking a dip every now and then, was perfect. We chose to eat in, and were happy we did. Can’t remember the name of the fish, but whatever the catch of the day was called, it was really good, and the cooking, though professional, had a home cooked flavor to it, a very welcome relief for two “restaurant fatigued” travelers. Be advised that there are sporadic power outages in the area (possibly the whole island. I’m not sure). But the staff immediately brought lights and the one we experienced (maybe 20 minutes) ended up being more romantic than an inconvenience. If you’re looking for a nice, welcoming and cozy place to stay, I can’t imagine you’d have any better options. We are definitely coming back. The dive center in the village is excellent, btw.

Negative: I really couldn’t find any fault with the place. I’m sure there are fancier places, but Msafiri house was just really… nice. I don’t know how else to put it.

Positive: Tucked away in a less touristy part of Zanzibar which still has the raw authentic beauty of the Island, Msafiri house is a lovely place to get away! It's a quiet green compound where we could chill after a hot activity packed day. There are a few other resorts and restaurants within walking distance if you're looking for some more socialising/dancing/poolside relaxation. The staff is really lovely and happy to assist with planning day trips or any other needs. We were just the two of us, but I can imagine it's a great affordable option for groups or families who need a few rooms and want to have the place for themselves. The owners are planning to build a pool and improve it further, so it has even more potential in the future! Curious to see how it develops and hope to be back for another stay one day!

Negative: As it's still a relatively new place, there's always room for improvement. So little things like clothes hangers, some extra storage space/hooks in the bathroom/bedroom or some lounge chairs in the garden could be a real benefit for future guests.

Summary: Lovely affordable getaway in a beautiful, quiet and authentic part of Zanzibar!

Positive: The place has a charming garden and is located in a quieter area which makes one disconnect and enjoy the surroundings. The few rooms also makes it very friendly and personal. It is neighboring or close by other, larger resorts/bungalows offering live music and dancing, or with a beach. If one wants to explore, is easy to get to the departure point for dolphin safari or boat trip to Pungume Island and the sand bank. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The rooms were kept clean and bathrooms are spacious. The flower decorations on the bed were particularly beautiful and impressive! The restaurant has good food and well-sized portions.

Negative: There are shelves, but I missed a few hooks in the room and bathroom, on which to hang clothes, bathing suit, etc..

Summary: A fantastic week at Msafiri House - I look forward to my next visit :)
