Positive: We loved our 3 nights at Samawa Seaside Resort. Our room was so comfortable and the staff were lovely. We had a very relaxing time and an opportunity to chill out in such a beautiful setting. We did a snorkelling trip, whale shark trip and visit to moyo island. Everything was so well organised by the team at the resort our guide Rini was excellent. The pool is lovely and food in restaurant delicious. We hope to come back soon!

Positive: There aren’t many accommodation options on Sumbawa Island, and we chose this place mainly for its convenient location close to the whale shark trips. The property has a very beautiful garden, and the food in the restaurant was surprisingly good. The highlight, however, was the manager — exceptionally friendly and genuinely lovely.

Negative: Unfortunately, the property itself is extremely run down and definitely not worth the price. Our room — especially the bathroom — smelled terrible, and because the hotel was fully booked, we couldn’t change rooms. The pool looked beautiful at first glance but was completely unusable, as it was full of algae. When I raised this issue with the staff, I was told they would let the cleaning team know, but nothing was done during the two days we were there. In fact, guests continued swimming in it, which is quite dangerous given that many visitors are divers with small cuts — a serious infection risk. We also tried the spa a couple of times, but the massages were disappointing. The therapist seemed to need more training, and the massage room itself felt dirty, with old, musty towels. The fridge in our room was mouldy, and overall everything felt neglected and unhygienic — I honestly didn’t feel comfortable touching most surfaces. It’s such a shame, because the hotel has a lot of potential. The garden, location, and staff friendliness could make it wonderful, but it’s clear that the owners have let the place fall into a very poor state of maintenance and cleanliness.

Positive: The staff was great and welcoming. The scenery of the hotel is very nice and beautiful. The hut looked great from the outside. Breakfast was good.

Negative: The sheets had stains, the bathroom (shower/sink) was not in a great condition. Towels had stains.

Positive: The location was great, super serene and quiet. Lovely views. Felt like a retreat. Lovely pool that was nice and a little bit cold so refreshing. Nothing much to do there however and not much around. We were there to go whale shark snorkelling which was amazing! Staff were a highlight - so friendly!

Negative: However the bathrooms in the eco lodges left much to be desired. Needs updates to patch holes and broken things. Could have more activities or options.
