Positive: Clean place it was nice to wake up in iya valley. Staff was helpful and friendly plus it’s near a huge LAWSON. Convenient to buy food when there aren’t many options in the area.

Negative: Sound proofing could be better. Our room was also by the road side in the mornings there were lots of traffic noise, found it difficult to sleep. They do provide ear plugs though!

Positive: Lovely little home stay in the beautiful Oboke. Room very clean and comfortable, beds were amazing. Fridge in room was handy. Nice kitchen to prepare meals. Bathrooms were clean and good . Great location short walk from train station

Negative: Maybe an additional hob and a larger pot in the kitchen would be a nice bonus, but is not essential

Positive: Close to station and also close to a beautiful walk up the gorge. Lovely staff and a well appointed kitchen for use, even had hot chocolate! Host kindly drove us to station when it was raining

Negative: Such a beautiful area but no screens on windows, so unable to look out and enjoy view.

Summary: Great area, easy connection to transport to explore. Lovely hosts

Negative: The room didn't had a window which was a bummer Was quite expensive to my opinion due to the fact it's a small hostel in a secluded area, I guess it's for the fact that there isn't a lot of sleeping options aroud

Positive: Great location 5 -10 minutes walk from Oboke train station and bus stop, and is the closest of any accomodation in the area. It was easy to see everything in the area I wanted to see in one day, including the gorge boat cruise and a bus out and back to the Iya Valley Vine Bridge. The accomodation was brand new inside, immaculate and clean, as well as the bathroom facilities and kitchen and living room. Reverse-cycle air conditioning (heating and cooling) was provided in the bedrooms. It was the perfect accomodation if you're travelling Japan by public transport and want to visit the valley and gorge, as much of other accomodation in the area is some distance from the train stations and will require a bit more planning and perhaps some taxi rides. Tea and instant coffee are provided, and there is a fridge in the bedrooms. The owner also offers a kayaking experience in the gorge, but I didn't try this.

Negative: The accomodation is on a main road, which includes a lot of trucks going past all night, and there is no sound insulation. However earplugs are provided and are definitely needed for a reasonable night's sleep. The common areas (kitchen, living area, lobby and bathrooms) use kerosene heating, which may impact those with sensitive sinus or respiratory systems. It definitely impacted me, but at least the bedrooms had reverse-cycle air conditioning (heating/cooling). If you're visiting in summer, the kerosene heaters won't be an issue. You'll need to bring your own (dinner and breakfast) as there are no local restaurants or shops open after about 6pm. There is a good convenience store across the road from Oboke train station that even has some pre-made sushi, pickles, noodle dishes etc, as well as noodles and drinks. I'd recommend a visit before they close at 6pm.
