Positive: Lovely grounds surrounded by golf course and bridle trails. Large rooms, some with views. Generally low-rise architecture except on slopes. Nice bathroom (though in-floor heat would be better)

Negative: Incomprehensible site layout with no intuitive path from guest room to facilities. Cumbersome path from Reception to rooms via golf carts without luggage compartments. When you call for transportation, instead of picking you up from your building, the operator tells you to go to a designated Golf Cart Stop, whose location isn’t easily evident. Maps are at every Golf Cart Stop, but none of them say You Are Here or show the directions of travel. Footpaths have sparse signage. I actually designed and own a 5-star resort in Asia, Plantation Bay, a Real Resort with a Real Spa. If the management of Ojai Valley Inn would like to see how we solved similar transport requirements and issues, please study our website. I think it wouldn’t take much effort to implement our solutions.

Positive: The grounds are stunning! Room was very clean and beautiful, bathroom roomy and elegant.

Negative: We had asked for early check-in, and arrived at 3 PM. The room was not yet ready, so we sat and waited in the lobby. At 4.10 PM, we still had not received the text about our room being ready. When I asked the reception, the receptionist went into the back office to check. Within a couple of minutes the text came through, which makes me believe that someone had just simply forgotten about it. We find Ojai Valley Inn slightly over-priced, comparing to other luxury hotels both domestic and international.

Positive: The breakfast was excellent as was the view from the Oak Room. The gardens and grounds are so pretty and the gym is exceptional. I also liked the pilates class we took which was included in our stay. All staff were gracious and the room was so comfortable and beautifully decorated.

Negative: The dinner we had was good but not great but the service was excellent. Other than that I loved the place and would seek to return at every opportunity. I really didn't want to leave.

Summary: A next-level, beautiful resort. I'll definitely go again.
