Vista Mill Valley has the details inside and outside that warrant your consideration. Inside, the property has nice furnishings, from granite counter tops to the Fisher & Paykel gourmet gas range. The bedroom has an 8 ft glass window and a 10 ft sliding glass door. The living room has another 8 ft window, making the wooded lot a part of your experience. Your unit has its own deck, accessible from the bedroom or the main entrance. Your water view includes Richardson Bay, Tiburon, the Sausalito houseboats, Angel Island, the East Bay hills, and, on a clear night, the lit-up cranes of the Oakland waterfront, across the Bay.

Famous for its wooded hillsides and water views, Mill Valley has been the home of many notables, from Jerry Garcia to Janis Joplin. Grab a coffee in our downtown, and you might just recognize a few of our current residents.
If you've not been the the San Francisco Bay Area before, do stay in San Francisco for at least one night. But then come join us here in Mill Valley, for the perfect northern California experience.
Why this property?
Before putting this unit on the market we completed a major remodel, taking much of the property down to the studs. All the small details - sophisticated lighting, built-in speakers, etc. - contribute to a great experience. The kitchen is small, so we made it special, with a gourmet gas range, granite counter tops, etc. The deck was always nice, but we made it nicer, with Brazilian teak, and cable railings. And the exterior path and steps have been redesigned, to better leverage the garden.
Mill Valley has many wonderful properties, but some of them are time-consuming to get to. This property is only 1.1 miles from the freeway ramp.
Two considerations: 1) Like many San Francisco, Sausalito and Mill Valley properties, this unit does not have air conditioning. 2) It's about 40 steps to the unit. Not 40 in a row (there are multiple landings) and most of the steps are low-rise, but do read the reviews and make sure the property is right for you. Thanks!
April 14, 2025 - In the interest of full disclosure, construction on a new home just down the street has started. So far the noise has not been an issue, but I never want guests to feel that they weren’t told about something that they should have been. I think my property is benefitting by the fact that the construction site isn’t actually visible from the rental - because of the slope of the hillside plus some trees that are in the way. The crews also seem to pack-up by 4:30pm - that’s common in the Bay Area since evening traffic can be bad and “the trades” try to be in front of the worst of the commute. Summary: We were close to hiking areas, stores, and not far from the GG bridge. Host lives on site upstairs, super polite, informative, and made us feel right at home. Home was the cleanest we have ever encountered. I wanted to point out as the listing mention; there are stairs. We managed fine as we are pretty active, but wanted to point this out for anyone that may have issues. There is a landing every few steps, so you can stop to catch your breath. We were amazed at how close we were to local hiking and overlooks. Area is beautiful and the wooded area makes you feel completely secluded.

Summary: Bill and Terry have placed immense care and consideration into making their place an incredible stay for guests. The rooms are immaculate and cozy; we especially appreciated the well-furnished kitchen, as this made meals easy. (Having breakfast on the patio was the best way to start out mornings! The view is inspiring!) The thoughtfully curated binder of local places to try and sights to see was a cherry on top. You can absolutely feel the hosts’ love of their area, and we are so grateful they shared that with us! We couldn’t recommend it more highly!

Summary: Just returned from 4 nights here. The place was just as described. Lovely well maintained property, modern and very spacious. Fully equipped with everything we needed and more! The location was perfect for us - a short drive from the ferry port over the bay to the Ferry Building (30 mins / $9 - with clipper card which is close to Pier 39. Perfect if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle but with great links. Also very locally is Sausalito and Muir woods - a must see if you’re staying in the area. Overall a perfect stay in a perfect property in a perfect location.

Summary: Bill and Terry were really friendly and thoughtful! They gave us many great recommendations regarding restaurants, day trips and public transportation. The accommodation had everything we needed and even more. There were so many spices in the kitchen, which were tasty, beach towels and even binoculars. We loved it! This lovely gem is located close enough to the city but without all the hustle. There are so many things to do in the Bay Area. If you are looking for a nice and quiet place to stay, this is the place to be! It’s just incredible! We recommend this this accommodation and we will definitely come back!

Summary: We just stayed at this lovely duplex in Mill Valley. The place was so much better than staying at a hotel. We had a living area, galley kitchen, and bedroom with exquisite water views from one window and gorgeous nature views from the floor to ceiling sliding glass doors. Laundry was easily accessible in a room below our duplex. The property was exactly as described, and our host, Bill, graciously walked us thru and explained all we needed to know about it. I could hardly believe we were staying at a place so close to the city, given the tranquil location and family of deer we found wandering through the grounds one afternoon. This is a perfect location for those who want to explore San Francisco, as well as wine country as Muir Woods National Monument. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Summary: It was the perfect appartement, nice view, fast in downtown San Francisco. Terry and Bill are very nice and helpful. The appartement had everything in it, from the kitchen, living room, bathroom.... Clean and well organized. If we are back in this area, defenately again !

Summary: If I could use only one word to describe this listing, it would be “amazing”! We enjoyed every moment of staying at this wonderful place from the time Bill greeted us at the door on our arrival, to sending us on our way at checkout time! Everything was spotless clean with a lot of thoughtful touches, the bed was extremely comfortable, and it was so nice to wake up to a million $$$ view right out of bedroom window! We also loved spending out time sitting on the patio, and watching hummingbirds zooming around :) Thank you to our gracious hosts for sharing their wonderful home with us!

Summary: After a long drive from LA, our first night we flopped and slept on the bed so quickly, and enjoyed every moment there after. Summary: Bill greeted us when we arrived and even helped us bring in our bags! The place was immaculately clean, very comfortable, and the view was incredible from our bedroom window! We enjoyed taking in the views from the private deck each morning, and even saw some hummingbirds in his garden. The neighborhood is quiet but with plenty to do and it was pretty close to all the best hiking spots and the city as well! We will definitely look this place up first the next time we visit the Bay Area.

Summary: Immaculate, spacious and well stocked place. The view from the bedroom and the desk in the living room were fabulous. Lovely and spacious deck as well. Everything I could need was there including a fabulous CD collection. The hosts were responsive, gracious and kind. I can't wait to return.
