Positive: Great little boarding house, pretty basic facilities but everything we needed. Checking in process was a bit tricky, and we never saw an owner. But facilities we clean and comfortable

Negative: Check in process, passport scanning was difficult.

Positive: Very new Annex with 4 rooms and common area to cook, eat and meet on ground floor. Upper floor offered washing and drying machines and workspace. When we entered there was a very nice smell of wood and other natural materials. There was a beautiful fireplace to be operated in wintertime. Amazing! Bed was so comfy and room was very spacious compared to standard japanese accommodations.

Negative: The daylight entered the room around 4.30h in the morning. That's a real pitty considering that darker shades would help avoid that problem. The window on the side of the bed had no shades at all while the larger window had light coloured shades allowing daylight too early into the room. Hope that they will consider changing that and wish them a lot of success with this beautiful accommodation.

Positive: We loved the time we spent in Yakumo and Sento was the perfect hostel.

Negative: A bit noisy since it's so close to the train tracks. Bring noise cancelling headphones!

Positive: Beautiful house that has a large living room with a small kitchen and a big workspace in the second floor. Be careful, there are two entrances to the building, one leads to the cafe on the right and one to the guesthouse on the left (you will have guessed that the entrance to the guesthouse is to the left when facing the building). This is more neutral, everyone is free to make their own opinion. Other than the cleaning staff in the morning there isn't any staff for the guesthouse which seemed to work well but is still a bit unsettling. One impact this has is that the doors are always opened. Anyone could come in your room at any time of day or night.

Negative: Generally, I don't like upper beds in bunks. Well this one was made particularly unpleasant because of the straight ladder that runs perpendicular to the ground. Thus, it was hard to get off and on the upper bed. I absolutely loved the design of the toilets for the sake of design, but I have to admit they are fairly narrow. A bit hard to move around and if you are obese, you will probably not fit. A big downside which led me to remove at least 2-3 points and I hesitated to remove even more is that they force the guests, at check-in, to give their email address. Now, if you have an account with Booking.com it might not be a problem to you, but I am using Booking.com as a guest, so I used my real email address (didn't have an alternative that I was sure would work) and, since then, I have been receiving spam that made its way in my inbox (not the spam box). Considering the timing of the two and considering this is a known symptom of giving your address email to an untrustworthy source, I correlate them and I believe there is a high likelyhood that this property has either been hacked in someway or just outright gives/sells guests emails to illegitimate third parties (and who knows what happens to the other personal and sensitive information we trust them to handle). I hate that the most and I will never be coming back. If you don't end up using your real email address or if you don't have as strong feelings as I do towards your personal information, you will most likely enjoy your stay there.

Summary: A good guesthouse, but, to me, untrustworthy.
