Positive: We had the family room upstairs which was huge. Our host was passionate about living in this part of the world and helping others to experience it.

Negative: Having to pre-book meals three days in advance was not convenient. The property is a 20-min walk uphill from the station.

Positive: Everything. This was exactly what we were looking for in a stay outside the cities. Yukan is a consummate host, and made us more than welcome at Kashiwaya. The evening meal was excellent, as were the precisions for self-serve breakfast.

Positive: The property is run by a young man who is passionate about the property and preserving history and making his mountain town successful. It was a lovely stay, very comfortable, he has partnered with a local chef to provide delivery food to the facility as well as needed. This was invaluable to us as we were exhausted from a long hike. The property was kid friendly with comfortable floor beds.

Negative: It didn’t bother us, but due to the nature of the age and materials of the guest house, sounds carry very easily. If this is something that bothers you, bring your own noise cancelling devices. We brought a sound machine for our son and he was never disturbed by our upstairs neighbors.

Positive: Location was fantastic as it was along the Nakasendo Way. Love the quaintness of the place although we were not quite used to having to climb stairs. Lots of space for our party of 6. Love the fact that there was a heater just outside the shower room - to keep us warm esp on a cold spring day. Yakkun was a fantastic host ... he so kindly re-arranged our rooming arrangement at the last minute. We had dinner at the inn ... we really enjoyed the hotpot dinner he prepared. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Inn.

Positive: It was an absolutely beautiful place. Extremely well equipped. Beautiful views close by. Very calm and cozy. The staff was wonderful and the food was delicious!
