Positive: We stayed in this cabin for one night. It’s located on a large property with other cabins nearby. The entire area is surrounded by stunning mountains, fruit trees, a river, and waterfalls that can be reached with a short hike. We were very pleasantly surprised by the impeccable cleanliness of the cabin, which is often not the case in places like this. The fresh, fragrant towels and bed linen were an added bonus. Unfortunately, we didn’t see a quetzal, despite getting up at 5:00 AM, but we happened to arrive during a cold front, which likely discouraged the birds. One night is probably not long enough to have a good chance of spotting one anyway. The owner is very warm and welcoming, and she has a lovely little dachshund.
Negative: Although we had read in other reviews about the cold inside the cabin, I feel I should mention it again here — it is truly very cold at night. An electric heater permanently available in the cabin would be very helpful.

Positive: The position of the cabin is exceptional. It’s back to nature. Good bird viewings including the Quetzal.
Negative: The cabin being metal construction is cold and damp, but the surrounding area is superb. We came prepared with warm bed clothes so it was worth it for the couple of days we were there.
Summary: It was an unforgettable experience. Plus being English we were able to make our own Quaker Oats with the gas cooker 😄

Positive: Our host Amanda was excellent. She was very generous with her time offering to take us to see quetzales on the property. She explained the bird’s behaviours and the most likely time to see them. Amanda was able to spot quetzales that we would not have seen on our own We loved the location. We could watch hummingbirds from our window. The setting was quiet and peaceful among nature
Negative: We loved the whole experience . There is nothing we didn’t like.
Summary: This was our favourite place that we stayed in Costa Rica.

Positive: Ideally placed for spotting the Quetzal, this is a no frills, value for money, option that will suit the budget conscience birder. With Marlen's restaurant only 5 minutes walk away there is also no need to cook for yourself, although the option is available, providing you shop before descending 7 km down the challenging road into the valley bottom.
Negative: The metal container core of the lodge was very cold at night so bring warm night clothes or thermal underwear.
