Positive: Such a unique place, I can’t rate Fritz Homestay highly enough. Mesak, Leko, Harry, and the whole family went above and beyond to welcome us, look after us, and make our trip truly magical. As two female travelers who had the place to ourselves for a few nights, we felt completely safe the entire time. It’s such a special experience having what feels like your own private stretch of paradise beach, and the food is fresh, varied, and delicious. We were even treated to afternoon chocolate doughnuts and pancakes, and they prepared packed lunches for us when we headed out on day trips, which made everything so easy. The bed was comfy, there is electricity from 7pm until around 4/5am and I had a Telekommen sim and was able to get reception from around 6:30pm every day and some mornings also. Snorkelling with turtles and black-tip reef sharks on the house reef every day! It’s worth noting that this is a very remote location, so come prepared. Bring snacks and any drinks you might want (especially beer). They can sometimes pick things up for you from Waisai, but it’s best not to rely on it. Also, make sure you withdraw enough cash at the ATM in Waisai before heading over, as there are no ATMs on the islands. Bring extra cash for boat trips too- fuel is expensive, so getting to snorkeling spots or nearby islands costs more than you might expect. Boat trips can range from around 700,000 to 1,000,000 IDR depending on the distance. This isn’t specific to Fritz, just something to factor in when staying in Raja Ampat. Definitely double-check ferry schedules before you travel as well, as the 9 a.m. ferry from Waisai to Sorong doesn’t run every day. I stayed for 8 nights and it still wasn’t long enough. Highly recommend.

Positive: Friendly staff, fantastic food. The beach is really great to swim straight out the front. And the reef could easily be a Raja Dive spot but you have it all to your self.

Positive: Mesak and his family welcomed us like their own. Mesak is the kindest person on earth he’ll take you wherever you want and do absolutely anything for you! We visited a tiny, paradise-like beach all to ourselves. I especially recommend trips with Mesak whatever you dream up, he’ll make it happen. On top of that, it’s also a way to support him financially, as he puts his whole heart and his own money into this place. He’ll sing for you, tell you a joke, and truly make your experience unforgettable. He made me feel that when I return to Raja Ampat, it will only be to him. And the place itself? Clean, well maintained, and with delicious food! We are going to miss Mesak so much.

Positive: This is the place you definitely want to book. We stayed here for a few nights after our liveaboard and could not have been happier with this homestay. Mesak and his family are the kindest people you will meet. The accommodation has the most beautiful private beach and is very clean, with a wonderful spot for snorkeling. We saw so many small blacktip sharks (not dangerous at all), turtles, colorful corals, and thousands of fish. The food is also truly amazing. We were sad to leave and would love to come back. It feels like the last paradise.

Positive: The feeling of being in a paradise beach surrounded by nature. If you like the ocean, i cant imagine a better place to be; dolphins jumping just 50 m from your cabin, black tip sharks and turtles swimming around the reef every day, a lot of species of birds… definitely the experience I was looking for in Raja Ampat. The stuff is super friendly, always willing to help and make your stay better, the food is amazing and the reef is very healthy and full of life. I was diving with Olin Dive Center, and they pick you up and drop you right in front of your cabin. If you have a Telkomsel sim card, internet works from 7pm to 12 am. I’m traveling alone, so the first day it was a little hard to get used to the sound of silence, but after the first night everything changed. About the commodities: very clean and I found the bed very comfortable. There is running water coming from a well on the backyard. Indoor and outdoor shower. Electricity runs from 6pm to 12pm.

Positive: Fantastic location with a lot of privacy and calm. The bungalow was clean with fresh sheets, comfortable inflatable chairs on the porch, and a sturdy hammock outside. The reef was beautiful, with lots of activity like turtles and small sharks. There is no internet at all and only a few hours of electricity powered by a generator—great for a digital detox. The food was excellent, and we had freshly caught fish. Between the three main meals, we were served banana snacks, which was a nice touch. Seeing the bananas and papayas grow on the trees in the backyard made it extra special.

Negative: The downside to our stay was time management and communication. The owner, Mesak, was a very friendly host but seemed a bit torn between Frits Homestay and his family in Waisai. His son and cousins, who acted as hosts in his absence, had very limited English skills. While generally fine, this became difficult when issues arose. For example, we had planned a half-day tour that was supposed to start at 08:30, but they kept pushing it back one hour at a time with no explanation. It ended up starting at 15:30, which left us in limbo for the entire day. Since we had a flight the next day, we worried they would be late again, but luckily everything went well.
