Positive: Beautiful place very close to the Gorges du Dades. We had the place to ourselves for the night and our host was very welcoming and attentive. We had good food and good conversation. We like a hard bed but the bed is very hard. You have to drive up a dirt track so if you’re not happy with that, you can park in a lay-by on the road and walk over.

Positive: The owner was very responsive to our messages and kind. He came to pick us up although we were pretty late. He prepaired us great breakfast. It was cold in February, but he supplied us with enough blankets and air conditioning so we were not cold. And the rooms were clean, the living room with fireplace and tea was welcoming. I appreciate he was willing to talk about living in Morroco. He is an open minded speaker who has pretty good idea about differences in way of living between different cultures (which are not measured only through money or family income). I highly recommend.

Positive: Dar Mezyana Dades is located somewhere halfway the Dades Gorge in a tiny village that I do not know the name of. Not sure where Dar Mezyana Dades exactly was, I parked the car and got out the car to explore. Out of nowhere, a friendly man approached me with an outstretched hand, asking “Henk?” Bingo! He turned out to be Mimoun, the owner, and was already awaiting us. He told me to park at the mosque, and that from there we would walk to his Dar. The 10 minute walk to the dar took us over narrow concrete and wooden walkways, past the tradition mud brick house he grew up in. The dar is owned and managed by Mimoun and his wife Fatima. The dar has 3 rooms. After the welcome tea, I explored the area. I had agreed on a 7:30 dinner time. Fatima had cooked up a FANTASTIC dinner: pumpkin soup, grilled eggplant with potato and tomato, and chicken (with “mountain thyme”) with fries. After dinner, I talked until late with Mimoun about his family, about food, about politics, about religion, about Morocco and how it has been affected by COVID and the recent earthquake, and of course about soccer! In the morning, we were greeted by a smiling Mimoun and an EXCELLENT breakfast! The breakfast came with a Berber omelet cooked in a tajine. Best omelet I’ve EVER had!
