Positive: The cottage was warm and cosy and had fabulous views. It was well-equipped and had everything we needed for a three night stay. As it was October, it wasn't warm enough to eat on the patio which has a view across Derwentwater but, we did manage a pre-dinner drink out there. It's a great place for walkers - lots of walks right out of the door, but a long way to the pub😊

Positive: We booked at the Catbells Sunrise Cottage based on an internet search for cottages in the Lake District, and couldn’t have chosen a nicer place to spend a week in late September! Our goal was to stay at a quiet cottage out-of-town, yet close-in enough to get some groceries, visit shops and museums, and to enjoy an occasional pint and pub meal. The local bus provided us the option of not having to make the short drive into town. And to walk! The path to the summit of Cat Bells began for us just outside the door, with amazing views across the Derwent Water, and down into the Newlands Valley. The path at the base of the fell allowed for less-strenuous excursions north to Hawse End (stopping for an ice cream at the half-way mark), or easy walks south through the Brandelhow and Manesty Woods, to go for a pint at the Borrowdale Gates, or visit Lodore Falls across the Derwent footbridge. The cottage had a comfortable bed, and a very usable kitchen for cooking meals. Note that the hosts wanted to minimize having one-use plastic in the cottage; we recommended that the kitchen have a few re-sealable containers for left-overs. The heat responded quickly to warm the cottage upon our return from cool or damp walks. We enjoyed early coffees and breakfast on the deck, amazed at the morning cloud over the lake at first light, watching birds and enjoying the late fall flowers in the garden. Xia was a very accommodating and communicative host, responding to our needs and providing information and history of the area, and - when I forgot my new hat upon leaving - went out of her way to post it to me before we left the country! I highly recommend Catbells Sunrise Cottage for your stay in the Lakes District.

Negative: The hosts - admirably - wanted to minimize having one-use plastic in the cottage; we recommended that the kitchen have a few re-sealable containers for our left-overs.

Summary: We loved the place for its quiet, cozy charm, & its access to hiking in the Lake District autumn.

Positive: Such a lovely cottage with everything we needed for a few days of walking in the lakes. A great, quiet location part way along the path up Cat Bells; Keswick is nearby for supplies, and the view over Derwentwater to Blencathra is amazing while enjoying morning coffee!
