Indoor Description
There are two entrances to West Huckham Barn on the ground floor; one at the end nearest the bedrooms and the main entrance opening directly into the living area. Floor plans provided below.
We imagine that the open-plan living area is where you'll spend most of your time; the high timber ceiling and glazed doors give a feeling of openness and space. The comfortable seating area is complete with wood-burner. The oak-fitted kitchen has all modern conveniences (dishwasher, microwave, larder fridge, electric oven/induction hob). The west-facing conservatory is a glorious spot for watching the sunset.
For those with restricted mobility, this barn can offer space and easy access to all amenities, though wheelchairs would not be possible. There is one step between bedroom and living area. The conservatory is another step down, but has wide open double doors giving a complete view of the landscape from the living room level.
Also on the ground floor is a utility room, comprising washing machine, freezer and an extra larder fridge. There are two ground-floor bedrooms - one double bedroom and one single room. On the opposite side of the hall to this bedroom is the shower-room (comprising shower, toilet and hand basin).
A narrow staircase leads up from the utility area to a second sitting area which overlooks the downstairs living room. There is a desk available here. This area leads through to a double bedroom (King-size bed) with en-suite bathroom (bath, toilet and hand basin). This bedroom also has an external door, with wider, outside steps down to the garden.
Outdoor Description
The outside space at West Huckham Barn is sure to delight! The sloping lawn to the rear of the property is large, with far reaching, west facing views, an ideal place to enjoy the sometimes spectacular sunsets. The land here is complete with pond (unfenced, so children must be supervised). There are two areas of wild flower meadow within the garden. In springtime, bluebells can be seen on the steep bracken covered hillside beyond the gate, to side of parking area.
(Please do not use online grocery shopping services to be delivered to the cottage, the lane is not suitable to allow access for delivery lorries).
There is an excellent, well stocked, mini-supermarket at Wheddon Cross, also in Dulverton in the other direction, both of which are open long hours.
There are outside chairs, plus benches near the pond, and on the far side of the garden. A public footpath runs down one side of the garden under the hedge. This leads to Winsford, via the river Quarme valley; a lovely walk. The village of Exton can also be reached via a branch of this public footpath across the bracken hillside to the left.
The garden is enclosed with stock fencing but an adventurous dog could get out. There is likely to be livestock in nearby fields, so please be vigilant.
Parking
There is ample parking for two cars beside the property on the drive. Beyond the outside steps, there is an electric vehicle charging point in parking area. The gateway into the adjoining field should (if possible) be left clear for access.

Summary: Wonderful spacious and comfortable kitchen/dinning/sitting area with brilliant log burner. Amazing rural location and view. Perfect for Dogs. Star gazing from bed. Walk from the door or walk a different, lovely 7 mile round every day within a 15 minute drive of the cottage.

Summary: West Huckham is a lovely, comfortable barn in a great location and with views to die for. The garden was very popular with my two dogs and the barn was well equipped and cosy, despite the wet and windy weather. I hope to be returning sometime soon.

Summary: The only thing I would like to say is the difficulty in finding the barn. Could not something be posted by or near the finger point relating into the roadway down? The Vinnecombe Farm sign was also extremely difficult to locate, it was surrounded by the the foliage of the hedge it is in. Otherwise, apart from the appalling weather we had whilst there, we were extremely impressed by the place and would have no hesitation in going back, or recommending to friends. The views were staggering and the peace and tranquility of it all were wonderful. A truly magical experience for us both, many thanks again.

Summary: This is a lovely, comfortable place to stay, and good to have milk, tea, coffee and cake on arrival! The conservatory is a great place to relax, take in the wonderful views and watch the wildlife. We even had a hedgehog in the garden. The barn is really well equipped and I always love to see books and games provided as well as maps, books of walks and lots of information on places to visit. This is a perfect location for anyone who loves the countryside, walking and wildlife. Kate Dickie, Stowmarket

Summary: This was our 12th year staying at West Huckham Barn so it really is home from home for us. I almost don’t want to tell anyone about the Barn as I feel like it’s our secret. So if I have to...I’d say, if you need to re charge your batteries, if you want a perfect view both day and night and you just want peace and quiet and a place to properly chill...stay at West Huckham Barn. My top tip would be to buy or bring some wildlife food, we’ve had such a variety of birds visit including pheasants, wood pigeons, rabbits, coots, moorhens, ducks and even a weasel one year. Another suggestion, put your camera on time lapse and leave it outside as the sun goes down, you won’t regret it.

Summary: Lovely barn well equipped with amazing views and perfect rural location.

Summary: This is a lovely barn conversion and location which had everything. Be aware that the property is at the end of a very steep drive which can be challenging to get out of at first. Great to walk if you're fit!
Sue L. Jul 12, 2023 05:44:17 PM
Summary: This was our third Xmas at the barn and it never disappoints. We had a great family Xmas and managed a walk on Exmoor every day despite the weather. We hope to return in the future.

Summary: The view from the conservatory and garden is fabulous.
