Positive: The location was excellent and staff really helpful. The owner offered us a day tour in his private car to view the main sites outside of the city. He speaks good English and was able to explain much to us. Because of his connections we were able to board a boat to view Akdamar Island and enter Hosap Castle which has been closed for 10 years. The cost was very reasonable for such an experience. The cost of the hotel was excellent value.

Positive: They delivered what they advertised.

Negative: Without air condition I had to open the window for a better circulation. However right next to my room outside the building, there were constructions going on the whole night even past midnight till at least 2 am. There were drilling sounds, hammering and extremely loud noice. It was terrible and that happened for the continuous 2 nights that we were there.

Positive: Great location, good value for money, staff speaks English

Negative: I stayed 7 nights, no room cleaning, not even a change of towels, which is the minimum in any hotel. Staff needs to be more friendly/welcoming, as they rarely acknowledge your greeting/presence or look at you when they hand you the key; it just feels uncomfortable.

Summary: It is an ok place to stay, if you but do not expect more than basics

Positive: Solo 71-year-old traveler in Room 302. Most importantly, the staff & management. The staff is always inquiring if there is anything that they can assist with. The otel mgr. Mr. Harun is a wealth of local travel knowledge, & will assist you in all your local & continuing travel/transport needs. The shower pressure in my room was absolutely fantastic with hot water. An abundance of towels. If you want the linens changed, just ask; not automatic. The outdoor temp was mild, so no need for a/c; I just left my bedroom window open. Location great: smack right in the middle of the bazaar with everything you need just a stone’s throw away. Room has a mini-fridge: great for keeping fruits & bevs chilled. All this for a great price: as we say in America, “A great bang for your buck.” And the breakfast was adequate; a typical Turkish buffet, even tho I don’t eat a big breakfast. It worked for me. But you’re right near historical “Breakfast Street” if that’s your thing. And the elevator is a plus, even tho I walked down the stairs all the time.

Negative: No chair in the room if one wants to write on the table. And the room lighting was a bit dim in the evening; no issue during the day as great sunlight.

Summary: TOPRAK OTEL in VAN is a great budget choice.

Positive: Location is good. Breakfast is included in the room rate. The hotel is clean and warm. The hotel owner and staffs speak English. The hotel owner helped me with my preferred and private day trip. There is fluffy fat cute cat at the Reception 😺😻 but she is playing hard to get. She does not let me touch her or hold her.

Negative: WiFi could be better and faster for digital nomads. I could not work in my room because the connection was on and off the whole time. I had to come down to the lobby to work. However I got disconnected 3-4 times. It was impossible to open Power BI shared files and I couldn't finish my work
