Positive: Breakfast was amazing, location couldn’t be beat. All the staff were exceedingly kind and helpful. They really made it a great stay. Loved the in room biscuits too.

Negative: Room was warm but the fan helped.

Summary: Excellent location, staff and quality! 10/10 would recommend.

Positive: The proximity to the ferry was brilliant for us, as we arrived past 9 pm. I did pay for an upgrade to stay in a superior room, with a king size bed and a (partial) view of the harbour. The room was quite spacious with enough dressers/ armoires, enabling us to unpack our luggage for the two night stay. The bathroom was newly renovated with a jacuzzi tub / shower. We enjoyed two breakfasts and a dinner in their restaurant. The food and service were very good. The onsite bar was a good spot for a nightcap.

Negative: Our room was on the 2nd floor, but the elevator only went to the 1st floor, so there was a bit of heavy lifting to get to the room. We kept our window open at night as we did find the room a bit warm for sleeping. Consequently, early morning truck traffic on the street below did wake us early…no matter as we had a jam-packed schedule!

Summary: The Islay Hotel was a very nice, comfortable place to stay with friendly staff and good food.

Positive: This is one occasion when the experience inside the hotel is better than you expect when you see the place from the outside. The hotel is in the centre of Port Ellen and its exterior is uninspiring but everything inside the hotel is wonderful - quality of rooms, food, bar and above all the excellent staff. We'll be very happy to return!
