Positive: The building was charming, and its location near the town of Pacific Grove was excellent. We especially enjoyed the beautiful beach, where we were entertained by playful squirrels. The host was very helpful, even assisting us with carrying our bags down to our basement room. Our king size bed was very comfortable. We didn't get to enjoy the food offered as it didn't fit into our schedule but it sounded delicious.

Negative: Our stay at The Charles was certainly an interesting experience, as our room was located in the basement—a bit of a surprise and definitely a bit of a struggle getting our bags up the stairs, out of the basement. From the window, we could watch people’s feet as they passed by on the footpath.

Summary: A unique B&B in a beautiful part of the world.

Positive: The location is convenient for couples on vacation as well as small families looking for convenience. The breakfast & evening treats are great little perks!

Negative: Unfortunately, I don’t remember booking the basement room. The fan in there was broken & it was a bit stuffy in there but other than that, I loved the place as well as the staff! Everything was offered was phenomenal, the place is gorgeous & I look forward to coming back!

Positive: Its a beautiful property very close to everything in PG. The rooms are very spacious and tastefully decorated. They also have a very beatiful and spacious dining and living room where you can hang out as a group which was great as we were three families on a reunion weekend. Ian and Kirsten were amazing inn keepers who were always around to answer questions and laid out amazing spreads at breakfast and wine o clock in the evening. Overall a great experience.

Summary: Beautiful getaway in the heart of a very beautiful pacific coast town!

Positive: The bed and breakfast looked just like the photos, was a short walk to the heart of town and the beach, the staff was super friendly and helpful and the ambience was lovely. Also the breakfast and little happy hour were much appreciated.

Positive: This place is special. There's the obvious like its central location - you can walk (oceanside) to the aquarium and Cannery Row with all of it's restaurants and shops. Even the stroll through town (to Lover's Point and the ocean side path) is lined with adorable shops and beautiful old homes. A quick drive and we were in Carmel or on the beautiful 17 mile drive. Then there is the inn itself - beautifully remodeled with every detail thought of. They have the most comfortable bedding and pillows ever after a long day hiking (or, let's be honest, eating desserts in Carmel). But what really makes the place special is the innkeeper and his wife. They take such pride in the hotel and the service. We purposely made it back one evening in time for the afternoon nosh based solely on his description of it. And it lived up to the hype! I shouldn't have been surprised as their continental breakfast had the most delicious and freshest assortment of, well, everything, using the most beautiful china. Reading this you may get the impression that the place is formal or stuffy but it was the opposite. Ian and his wife are incredibly down to earth and friendly as were so many of the other guests we met over breakfast. Stop thinking and book it, you won't regret it.
