Mi Casa del Mar is one of the most beautiful properties in Akumal. It is on a rocky cost with what is described as the most beautiful view in Akumal with 180 degree view of the ocean. Movies have been filmed from our lawn and pool area. It is ideally located between Akumal Bay, each a five minute walk to a sandy white beach and snorkeling area - and the Half Moon Bay. AND THIS JUST IN: The Sargasso problem on the beaches has gone away?
The condo is in a lovely building, with unique, bold architecture with beautiful hardwood doors and cabinetwork, tile floors, tile counters, high ceilings and a private atmosphere that makes it a great vacation retreat. We are an easy five minute walk to theshops and restaurants of Akumal and a five minute walk in the other direction to Half Moon Bay -which is a bit pebbly - but has a nice bar and restaurant !

Our first floor garden level condo is close to a beautiful infinity pool with a breathtaking view of the Caribbean Sea. It has two bedrooms, each with King Size beds and AC, with two full baths. We have a futon couch and a large sofa in a large, spacious living area with stools to pull up to the kitchen counter.
Please check our reviews. Most by far have five stars and they can be helpful in describing what the guests have liked. We have many returning guests.
Beautifully decorated with Talavera tiles artwork and lamps, meticulously maintained, our condo sleeps 4 adults and 1-2 more family members on our new futon couch and/or 1-2 more children on our built-in sofa. A beautiful dining area, fully equipped kitchen, and a furnished patio with walk-out to the pool.
Our condo is a favorite for families with kids and for vacationing couples or two couples. We have daily maid service. We go the extra mile and have Wifi internet, a TV, a large DVD movie collection. To save time, money and trouble for guests we have snorkeling equipment including 4 life vests (required here) six snorkel sets including kids sizes, and flippers of all sizes. We even have a crib and high-chair for your toddler and various beach toys.
Within 25 feet of the first floor patio is a beautiful Infinity pool with inlaid mosaic turtles and a wading area in front makes the pool kid-friendly as well ! There are lawn chairs, and a hamaca outside. Beach towels, hair-dryer and iron . Air Conditioning in the bedrooms (only), which each feature King Sized Beds. Gentle ocean breezes keeps the rest if the interior comfortable. The bedroom AC's can cool the entire condo if it is terribly hot and no breeze in the summers. We also have two large stand-fans.
The living area includes two convertible sofa couches in a spacious area with Mexican tile floors and a newly added futon couch. Outdoor dining table on the patio.
Full kitchen (more like a kitchenette), microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator, cooking utensils , dining service for 8, daily maid (except Sundays). Large drinking water carboys are supplied in a dispense and linens, soap and towels and huge beach towels are provided as are hair dyers and iron and extra pillows.
Pets are not allowed (sorry !) Free parking available. Please note that due to the many palapas in the building - outdoor grilling with gas or charcoal is not permitted.
Mi Casa del Mar is close to the town of Akumal that offers many activities, shops and restaurants. Food and amenities can also conveniently be purchased in Akumal. Akumal is a quiet retreat located in the Mayan Riviera and is famous for snorkeling (Yal Ku Lagoon), excellent scuba diving, deep sea fishing and many other activities. The area is ecologically famous for its sea turtle nesting grounds. (Akumal means 'place of the turtle').
The location is in an ideal location for not only getting to spots in Akumal on foot - but also to see all of the sights and sounds of the region including experiencing Cenotes, the water parks like Xel Ha, archeological sites such as Tulum and Coba, a monkey preserve at La Punta Lagoona, and the town of Valladolid which has a scenic cathedral, wonderful shopping and an awesome folk art museum called Casa de los Venados. For more adventures you can drive 3.5 hours to the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza or our favorite, Ek Balam.

Summary: We had talked about a "mom's trip" for over 10 years and finally made it happen. I had stayed at Mi Casa del Mar in 2019 in a different unit and was thrilled to be able to return. Our stay was wonderful and we had a fabulous time - relaxing, exploring the area, snorkeling, renting and riding bikes into the pueblo - fantastic food and so much more. Would return tomorrow if I could.

Summary: We had a nice time at Mi Casa del mar. The place was clean, quiet and employees always ensured security and maintenance. Nice comfortable bedrooms with plenty of space. Our children loved the swimming pool :) Of course, all travelers have been asking to keep the place quiet as much as possible. We did not have any problem respecting this with our kids. We personally prefer quiet places, and it makes sense everybody care about this when staying there. People who like to party and leave kids free to be loud can visit resorts, there are many around. We bought a one-day pass at Bahia Principe Grand Tulum which is just 10 minutes to drive from the condo and kids did like it. Many resorts in the area do offer day-pass and night-pass. My husband and I do not like much these places, so it has been a good vacation compromise for our family. Also, access to beaches form the condo is easy and quick with a car. Communications with the owners have also been clear, efficient and cordial. They provided many useful information about rules for the property, directions on how get there and things to do in the surrounding area. We truly appreciated this, it did help us feeling safer and planning better our trip (we do recommend Taverna and Turtle Bay Cafee restaurants. Great food and services). Like other travelers renting that place, we were in no way disappointed with our choice. Thanks to Hans and Joan for helping us to make our stay enjoyable.

Summary: We had a great time at the unit. The property is just as described and is in a great small condo building right on the water. There is no beach, but the pool is where we hung out and the beach is just a short walk away. The unit is on the first floor with a back porch that leads right out to the pool, so access was great. The only thing to be aware of is, that there is no AC in the main living space so it can get a little warm. We opened the doors to let the breeze in to help and there are fans. It was not a big deal because we spent all our time outside. The bedrooms have AC so there is no issue when sleeping. We would definitely recommend this unit and will use it again on our next trip to this great town.

Summary: Hans gave us fantastic information, the condo was well described, and we made the most of two nights and one day. Great location, clean and spacious condo with very friendly and helpful staff. Our only challenge was that the power in north Akumal was out the first morning and most of that day and again the next night starting around 11pm. The condo must have a generator, which is helpful but the AC in the rooms will not work on it.

Summary: We really enjoyed the pool and close proximity to town. We like to avoid more of the touristy spots and Akumal was very touristy so having a rental car was a must for us to tour around the different beaches and eateries in the area. That being said we looked forward to returning to the condo and lounging by the pool every day, the staff and hosts were easily accessible and very friendly/helpful with any needs or problems that arose. We would absolutely stay again!
