Travel Purpose: business

Positive: The shower was really nice. Overall the apartment was nice, a good size and well laid out. The electric shutters were good for keeping the heat out of the apartment and it was useful to have parking at the front of the building.

Negative: We had a very unpleasant experience on the day we arrived in Metz - having had a few messages from the host in the lead-up to our arrival, we were awaiting the code to get the keys when we received a very long message, supposedly from the host, giving us a totally different address in a different part of town, and asking for a €1000 deposit for the keys, as well as asking for photographs of our ID and for us to meet the host in an underground car park to give them the money and be given the code for the keys. This was reported to Booking.com and we received further messages, via the Booking.com app, some apparently genuine and some seeming to be from a 3rd party still looking for us to contact them on a number that we hadn't been given at the time of the booking. Sadly, this really spoiled our experience and, although we reported the issue to Booking.com and were told they were investigating and would contact us about it, we haven't heard from them again either. We didn't feel safe at the property since the person who tried to trick us out of €1000 clearly had access to the Booking.com account and would have known where we were staying. We were assured that our credit card details etc couldn't be seen, but it still hugely spoiled our stay in Metz. Booking.com haven't clarified whether the host's account was hacked or whether they knew about the messages we received asking us for a large amount of money and copies of our ID. Luckily, we didn't hand anything over or meet anyone, but it still soured our experience.
