Set back from the road that runs through the tiny hamlet of Hamalevriou, this wonderfully renovated old mill is in the heart of the village, yet with a peaceful, pretty garden and swimming pool. An elegant whitewashed three storeys accommodation, it has plenty of space to spread out and relax, especially for large groups with landscaped grounds and views of the countryside. Great care has been taken to keep so many of the original features including the stone clad interior walls and the traditional Cretan archway in the main living area. It mixes sophisticated and rustic charm with a very large ground floor living and dining area, and a smart modern kitchen completely at home with old style artefacts that are displayed throughout the villa. Below the main house, there is a studio-type annexe perfect for those wanting a little more privacy from the main house, with external access and a kitchenette, seating area and a shower room.
Opening out onto the magnificent gardens that surround the larger than average swimming pool, there are steps and a ramp from the villa down to the swimming pool and terrace. A covered dining area sits next to the barbecue and the tempting sun loungers around the pool are ideal for some holiday reading before a dip to cool off in the pool. At the end of the land is a pretty lawned area just for decoration where guests can gaze out at the breathtaking vistas of the hills and dales with the sea in the distance, wonderful in the evenings.
The village has one popular taverna certainly worth trying out, and further afield, Stavromenos village and beach are a 5-minute drive away, with supermarkets, shops, and cafe bars as well as a good selection of eateries.
