Summary: This was once a lovely home and its setting is beautiful and secluded. It is built into an interesting rocky outcropping with serene places to sit for coffee and wine, depending on the angle of light and the time of day. The home has many comfortable features, but disappointingly, it is no longer properly described as “luxurious.” Indeed, it has been a long time since it has enjoyed any TLC, so now it seems tired and visibly neglected. Perhaps there is a management company or cleaning company that is betraying the trust of its very kind owners, who could not have been nicer in their correspondence. That would explain why we found it far from sparkling clean (a serious understatement, given the long list of cringey discoveries we made) and amazingly poorly provisioned (which was frustrating, given that a trip to town takes a a good hour—a long way to go for basics like coffee and paper towels). But it doesn’t explain why we found so many things in sad disrepair, from 3 out of 4 broken outdoor chairs, to faded, interior window shades jerry-rigged with safety pins, to broken appliances. To be clear, it is still a reasonably pleasant place to stay. The internet is fast, the large main room is attractive and it would offer a nice place for gatherings of friends or family, and it has two bedrooms that are adequately comfortable. One simply needs to lower expectations that are raised by its description and the puzzlingly enthusiastic reviews that many have provided.

Summary: We chose this property due to the seclusion, closeness to nature and outstanding reviews and we were not disappointed. The property is surrounded by the Gila Wilderness and is SPECTACULAR! There are many trails but unfortunately they can be overgrown with brush in places and they are rocky and not easy walking. The house itself is large, open ,comfortable and bright with windows on almost every wall plus doors leading outside to decks and patios. We found all the amenities we needed and were very comfortable. The owner, Bruce, and manager, Laura (and Charlie), were helpful and friendly. We had one instance where the power in that entire area was out from 5:30 PM to 1:00 AM the next morning. We started a fire in the fireplace and had a most romantic and lovely evening. We were there for a month and the house really felt like home when we left. We miss the Pinon Jays and Cliff Chipmunks that came to the master bedroom deck every morning! You are also close to the Continental Divide Trail and the historic little town of Pinos Altos. Try the Buckhorn Saloon there! Remember that this town was a huge Gold (and other mineral) mining town in the 1860s and was attacked by a large band if Apaches which included Cochese and Mangas Coloradas. Very historic. You’re about 20 minutes north of Silver City and about 4 miles north of Pinos Altos. There is a modern Walmart Super Center in Silver City. Be aware the road north of Pinos Altos is narrow/twisty with no guard rails.

Summary: I liked the house location and the setting on how it’s placed on the side of the mountain. The reading material was very impressive as well as the collection of furniture. I did notice some of the outside artwork was broken and has not been repaired for awhile. I had trouble with the heat settings in the house as well. Either I could not get the place to warm up or it got too warm and we had to open the doors. However, I know I had a problem understand how to use there heat system since it is not something I am familiar with. The dishes did have to be rinsed out before using them as they were not washed right. Over all everything was nice. If I can suggest something is to have a regular maintenance man and inspection of housekeeping. Oh! And I do know there was a mountain cat around we could hear it at night! That was very exciting!

Summary: This is a beautiful home tucked into a hillside about 2 miles north of pinos altos. The location is quiet and peaceful. You hear nothing but the breeze in the trees. The home itself is beautiful, comfortable and spacious. We loved the original art, the book collection, and especially the very cool mid-century modern design aesthetic. We also enjoyed walking (and scrambling) around on the cairned routes that the owners have marked out on their large property. Very much looking forward to visiting again.

Summary: A wonderful home in a quiet and peaceful area of the forest away from all the noise of the city! We had a great time checking out all the natural sites in the area and enjoyed coming home to a great place with all the features you would ever want in a vacation home! Thanks for the peace and quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Summary: We greatly enjoyed our stay at the house just outside Silver City with the covered deck among the rocks and trees. There is one house next door, but it is far enough away for privacy. The street below conveniently takes you to the Gila Cliff Dwellings and Lake Roberts in one direction and Silver City in the other. The house was comfortable with great artwork/decor and lighting, thick towels, and very clean but could have used a greater variety of dishware and some niceties like luggage racks and a screen door for the front door (like the deck door), so we could open it for air/nature sounds without the bugs getting in. The showers and the swamp coolers worked well; it was warm enough that we didn't test the heat. Live TV was hit and miss, but Smart TV worked fine. Our cell service and texting was dependent on the service provider - one phone worked, and the other didn't. The laundry center (including basket) was very appreciated, as we didn't have to pack as much on our trip. It would have been nice if there was a way to recycle at the house, and have the housekeeper bring the items into town. Early during our stay, the well water abruptly shut off. Laura the manager and Bruce the owner acted immediately, getting us temporary water while the well tank was refilled and then evaluated for a potential pump failure. The issue was resolved in just a few hours. Overall, we had a fun and relaxing time and recommend this wilderness home in Pinos Altos to all.
