It is just a 140m level stroll to the well known surf beach Sandy Bay which is generally safe for swimming/surfing through all tides and also has a freshwater creek/lagoon for small children to paddle in. The well utilised walking track along the coast to Whananaki starts here for those wanting peaceful exercise.
A short drive will take you to Whale Bay and Matapouri and just a few more kilometers sees you at Tutukaka, the base for all diving and fishing tours heading out to the world famous Poor Knights Islands. You will also find a variety of cafes and eateries at Tutukaka and Ngunguru.

Summary: There is so much to love about this area. The beaches are stunning. The bach is perfectly placed to enjoy it all. It's not the flashest but it is well equipped with all you need. Internet and phone is sketchy in the bach. The owner was helpful but also left us to ourselves. Good value. Would recommend.
