Sitting at an elevation of nearly 7400’ and nestled between over 600’ of Florida River frontage and the foot of a mountain, this property is Colorado at its finest. This amazing, 3.65-acre property enjoys supreme privacy in the heart of the valley surrounded by two large acreage ranches and is just 8 miles to Main Street in Durango.
You will arrive at the property on all paved roads and pass over a private bridge to get to the home. The home is set up as two separate, self-contained living areas totaling 3971 sf. (separated by a common walls). Each side has its own kitchen, living room, bedrooms, baths, fireplace and laundry. You can book one side, or, for larger groups or ultimate privacy you can reserve both sides.
For the purposes of this web listing, we are required to list each one separately. This listing is for the "Bear House"...a 2-story side (2 bedroom). The listing for the 3 bedroom side (the "Trout House") is VRBO listing #1652431.
The 2 bedroom option features an open kitchen, dining and family room layout with 2 guest bedrooms on the second floor. This side can easily accommodate 7 guests (master has a king bed, bedroom 2 has three single beds and there is a pullout sofa). There is a bath on each of the floors and laundry on the first floor. There is a river rock fireplace and the kitchen is fully equipped. There is approximately 2,000 sf so plenty of room to spread out.
NOTE: The other side features single level living with a large master suite (with jetted tub), 2 additional guest rooms and a 2nd full bath. Relax on one of two porches that overlook the river.
Crib and high chair are available upon request for either listing.

Summary: This was our second time staying here. We love the peace and quiet being just outside of town. The place is surrounded by trees and has a stream running through the front portion of the property. There is plenty of room for our kids to run around in the front yard and ride bikes on the driveway. Inside has everything we needed and a comfortable bed to sleep on. We definitely will be back in the future!

Summary: Beautiful setting. Architecturally unique design. Well equipped house that can sleep 5-6 and plenty of family space to keep them happy. Windows down in the summer with river rushing and waterfall sounds made summer nights in fifties exceptionally great sleeping. A beautifully landscape with a river running through was incredible. It was within an hour of many other great places!

Summary: My husband, myself, & my two college age children stayed for a week. This house was perfect for our needs. We enjoyed the trout stream and the close location to Durango. The hosts provided all the essentials as well as helpful notes. We would definitely stay here again!

Summary: We had a wonderful stay at The Bear House and can’t wait to return. This home is like Heaven on Earth and is absolutely beautiful grounds. We loved putting the windows up and listening to the river out front, playing croquet and Farkle on the lawn. We are so thankful to have found this place. Everything is just as described and it was perfect for our Colorado getaway to cooler temps. Can not say enough good things. Loved this place!!!

Summary: We had a wonderful stay at this home. It had plenty of space inside and the property is gorgeous. We played games outside by the river and just enjoyed the breathtaking views all around us. It was an easy 15-minute drive into Durango for grocery shopping and restaurants.

Summary: We rented both houses for our family of 9. It was a wonderful place to make a lifetime of memories. The houses are beautifully stocked for downtime when you’re not seeing the sites around the area. Games to play, peaceful scenery, and great fishing were the highlights. The owners are also exceptional at communicating with you and it’s very clear they want you to enjoy your stay. I highly recommend this property!
