Positive: Breakfast selection is good, though it could offer more variety in types of cuisine (Mostly local and a few Chinese dishes. ) Coffee can be improved. I had trouble opening the tops of glass bottles of complementary water in the guest room. The metal thing did not disengage, and the whole thing kept turning, without opening. Discussed this in a casual chat with Sujata at breakfast. To my surprise, 5 minutes after returning to my room, the housekeeping brought 6 plastic bottles of water. The attentiveness to and speed with which to solve a guests's problem should be laudable. Also to be mentioned is that I got a deal to have 4 items of free laundery for each night's stay. This is really good.
Negative: Twice during my 5-day stay, I received phone calls from guest relations. Once during a meeting where I was charing. Not being used to receiving a call from the hotel I stay in during a business trip, I figured it was some kind of emergency. It turned out that someone was just calling me to ask "how's your stay? Is there any problem?" I told her (forgot to ask for her name) that she was the problem. I was quite upset. The guest's phone number is a personal information, which should be kept secure by the Management, and not to be available for staff to gain "points" for being "nice" to guests. It is a breach of trust between the guest and the hotel. And why during the day, when it is easily imaginable that these guests are there to do business and they are woking during the day (and beyond)? Intrusion to our privacy, and I have never had this upsetting experience with any other hotel in my 35 years of overseas travelling (mostly business). This should stop immediately. Text messages, maybe. But not phone calls! Another instance of staff overzealous about getting guest's recognition. On my first breakfast, a waitress asked me to fill in a customer satisfaction survey. I gave many 8s and one or two 7s out of 10. She came after me as I was leaving, saying basically only 9 or 10 are acceptable! I wonder how effective this survey is to the Management. 8/10 is good! But still there is a room for improvement. If you receive all 10s, that means the guest is not seriously cooperating with the evaluation of services on behalf of the Management. Here again I saw a hedden agenda on the minds of staff that if they get commended by guests, maybe they get promoted or get a bonus. It was uncomfortable because it was too apparent.
Summary: Mixed feelings about how staff is so eager to be appreciated by guests.
