Positive: Nature lovers, look no further. Posada del Cerro is a well thought-out lodge, with amazing accommodation consisting of hardwood thatch houses of different sizes. These have no AC, so you need to be ready to compromise slightly on comfort; but instead you get to sleep in comfortable beds seemingly in the middle of the forest, with cicadas and crickets singing day and night respectively, and the odd howler monkey serenading at your window. Having a family of monkeys overnighting outside the main hall was a highlight for us as we got to see them up close. But perhaps the best is the staff, especially Jorge, the owner, who is happy to share his expert knowledge on the area, and Santos, who is always around to help out. My family and I really enjoyed our stay and we went home with wonderful memories.

Positive: The 'Posada del Cerro' is the "Hill Inn" in every sense. Surrounded by nature, with a view of the lake, complete with nearby drum music on some evenings. There are about 75 steps up to the Restaurant. The facilities are rustic, and there are suggestions about keeping your luggage closed, since open air conditions may lead to critters. The shower had ample supply, and there's one bottle of drinking water per night in your room. 'Posada del Cerro' coordinated my arriving airport shuttle.
Negative: There could be drinking water available in a dispenser in the Restaurant. The teenager reading in the hammock on my porch confused me at first. Then I realized that I was on a shared porch, even though I had my own thatched roof inside a family sized room, with a loft. My daughter stayed at 'The Gringo Perdito' and our activity van had an easy place pick up and drop off for me. There is a bus stop in between.

Positive: The room was fantastic, very nice, open, with a view on the lake! It was exactly as it looked on the pictures. A paradise! Everything was also super clean. The houses are located in a nice garden, where we even saw howler monkeys! Sanctus and Alida are super nice and took so good care of us! They also prepare nice meals, with a lot of care. We really felt welcome in Posada del Cerro. Sanctus also arranged a trip to Yaxchá, and a shuttle service to Rio Dulce at the end of our stay. We really loved staying in Posada del Cerro!

Positive: Clean, comfortable, very peaceful, staff were lovely, very safe, food and service were brilliant. The gentleman cooked us beautiful fresh soups and salads when we arrived. We also stayed at Alice's guesthouse for a few nights, which was fully booked but this place was empty, we don't know why!! Both are beautiful places but this is cheaper and the rooms are bigger and cooler, book here!! They deserve the business, Alices is v good too tho

Positive: The property is very nice and the staff were very friendly and the food was quite good, although we only at breakfast.
Negative: We had a car and it was not clear how to access the hotel from the parking lot. Eventually we figured out we had to walk back to the main road from the parking lot and access the property from the front, although the parking lot is behind the property. My biggest complaint is the mattresses are very old and uncomfortable, and the bedding and linen were also very old. Finally, the pillows were very old and terribly uncomfortable.

Positive: Location is great, staff was super friendly, attentive, professional... you name it...
Negative: Well... the beds where some sort of futon... very uncomfortable for all of us (5 people had the same opinion). And then... you should know that a family of howler monkeys live on the premises. They got into an argument at 2 am, which made for a rough night for all of us. As fascinating as that was, it would have been nice to get a little more sleep.
Summary: I'd stay there again... with better ear plugs and once they upgraded to decent matrasses.
