Summary: Gorgeous Property, But Loretto’s Loft Is Not Worth the Price Pendray Inn is a beautiful historic building with lush gardens and a lovely dining experience overlooking the harbor. Staff were kind, and most rooms seem charming. However, I had a deeply disappointing experience staying in the “Comfort Double Room,” also called Loretto’s Loft. This room is a converted attic space split almost 1:1 between bathroom and bedroom. The result is a long, narrow bedroom with a sharply sloped ceiling, making nearly half the space unusable. When lying in bed, your head is less than 20 cm from the ceiling. It feels cramped, awkward, and easy to bump your head even while seated. There’s also no proper desk or table — a basic expectation in a room costing over $300–$400 per night. The bathroom is surprisingly large, making the imbalance even more noticeable. Worse, the furnishings feel cheap and out of place compared to the inn’s otherwise elegant decor. The mattress was one of the least comfortable I’ve ever slept on in a Canadian hotel — not even close to the standard you’d expect for this price range. Overall, this room feels like a hastily added space, not in line with the rest of the inn. It simply does not justify the price.

Summary: We have stayed at Pendray a few times and our stay is always lovely. The check in staff are wonderful, the room charming, breakfast delish and relaxed. It is also a convenient walk to the ferry and downtown Victoria.
