Summary: The owner and host, Umberto and family graciously greeted us and took his time talking about the house and the surrounding area, beaches, sites, and best restaurants/tapa bars in the small local towns (all of which were close by, 15-20 minutes by car). We stayed for 6 nights and it seemed like not enough in this desert paradise. We travelled with another couple and rented the two- bedroom suite which very well appointed, lots of room, extremely clean, and had everything we needed. The house is well situated for access to several beautiful wild beaches, and numerous forts and historical sites. Markets and groceries were 15 minutes away where you can get everything you need. The site is set back out in the countryside with beautiful vistas of the mountains and dessert. There was a great outdoor patio to have dinners and a fantastic pool, loungers, and outdoor shower to cool off. Even though the days were hot, the building was built with great airflow and retained a cool temperature inside – evenings cooled down nicely for sleeping. Great hiking available from the backyard! The vista from this property was beautiful. We cannot say enough good things about both Umerto’s home and his hosting – a wonderful place to stay, very unique, and an absolute treasure find. We highly recommend this home for your visit! We will be sure to return another time and continue to discover the desert towns and wild beaches of Cabo de Gata.

Summary: My husband and I visited Cortijo La Tenada for two nights during a 10-day trip to Spain, on the recommendation of other hosts. We didn't quite know what to expect from the surroundings or the accommodations themselves, but both turned out to be very special. Cabo de Gata, the park in which the lodge is situated, looks almost like the American Southwest - hills covered in scrubby plants and cactus, enormous sky with every possible intricate combination of clouds. When we stepped outside our suite, you could see other buildings off in the distance - not even that far away, maybe - but the whole atmosphere was one of extreme quiet and calm. There's just nothing around, and it was incredible! The lodge is stark white with dark wood trim, and our rooms were very well outfitted, in a modern, minimalist kind of way. The bedroom got REALLY dark with the shutters closed, which was great for sleeping in - there was absolutely no way to tell what time it was! No lights coming from neighboring buildings to disturb your slumber, of course. Umberto and his wife were very kind hosts who gave us a lot of information about the area and recommended beaches nearby (including Playa de los Muertos, which was beautiful) and towns to eat in. They weren't around very often, but were completely helpful when we needed them. All in all, it was a very pleasant stay and we would certainly go back.
