Summary: The room was clean well presented room temperature spot on the staff as always were very helpful and friendly I ate a evening and lunch time meal both were excellent. My only issue is the lift that has a gulitine style door and if the door is not closed the lift will not operate which a bit of a pain to be fair the staff do sort but overall I would recommend the Old Hall Hotel

Summary: So honest review here Pros- great location opposite opera house - street parking nearby (not private) - free 6pm-8am and opposite the park - right near lots of other bars and restaurants (Santiago’s Spanish round the corner was really lovely!) can’t fault location. Was value for money for what I paid approx £80 inc breakfast. Check in lady and breakfast lady both really helpful and pleasant Cons - the hotel is very tired. I was on second floor, corridor ceiling clearly had a leak and wasn’t really patched, carpets worn and decor needs updating. My room wasn’t “dirty” but it wasn’t spotless either - there was a hairgrip on the floor behind the bedside table and the carpet edges were very very dusty. Bathroom was basically clean just tired. This is clearly an old/historic building which needs some TLC. My room if it was in another hotel would have been “quirky” with its odd angles and sloping floor and ceiling. Unfortunately in here it just felt like my bed was sloping in alsorts of odd directions and the furniture came from my grannies house - only 1 bedside table which was odd in a double room - had to use the dressing table chair as the other.

Summary: Stayed here before but was disappointed this time. Poorly stocked bar with no beer at all despite pumps, would’ve expected to stock up on cans or bottles at least, breakfast used to be freshly cooked to order, now buffet style and lukewarm, had to ask for bread to be replenished as well as juice and water, no fresh fruit. Rooms now need updating, shabby broken furniture and a fan blowing loudly outside the room from the early hours made it difficult to sleep. No reception staff when checking out so couldn’t voice our complaints.

Summary: When we arrived we were given the key to our room, however when we entered the room we quickly realised that the bathroom had not been serviced; there was used hand soap, wet towels and a unclean toilet. I had to go to reception to advise them of the situation and a member of the housekeeping team came about 15 minutes later; she advised that they were understaffed; but that does not excuse what we found on arrival. Breakfast on the Saturday morning was lukewarm at best (9.30); Sunday was better as we were earlier (8.45). The staff appeared that everything was a chore for them, (Except the lady on reception on Sunday at the time of our departure who was really helpful). An example of disinterest was the gentleman on duty at breakfast, there was no ‘Hello, good morning’, it was only ‘Room number? Tea or coffee?’ The room could also do with some improvement, the divan nearest the door had a rip along the base; the sash window would not stay open to let some air into the room, so we had to prop it open by folding the curtain to create a bit of support. There was a rip in the duvet cover on the bed nearest the window. The dressing table mirror also had a what could be described as some sort of sticky stain on it. The skirting boards were dusty too. I do not think it would be too much to provide bottles of water (glasses were provided). There was only one sachet of coffee despite two guests. Could be so much better…..

Summary: The building is absolutely beautiful and old. Located right in the middle, near the crescent and the pavillion gardens. The room was lovely. There were some areas which let it down. With dust on some carpet edges and dust on top of the curtains. Which are understandable given how tall the windows were. But these are more due to the fact it's an old building. The room was hot and I wasn't able to open the windows properly, but not too bad. Was worse when trying to get ready. Bed was super comfy. Breakfast was really nice. All staff were helpful and friendly. I would recommend and stay here again if I needed to stay over. Parking was outside, if you managed to get a space and you could get a pass for £6 for 24 hours. Overall I thought it was lovely.

Summary: Excellent location, Historic. Paid extra for large 4 poster bed and was very pleased with room. Excellent modern on suite. But lift only worked twice out of 6 times.checked contacts above all ok.lift old and not maintained well,shame I have heart problems.but managed with difficulty.

Summary: We really enjoyed our stay at Old Hall Hotel in Buxton. The hotel is in a very central location, making it easy to explore the town on foot. Parking is available directly outside the hotel and costs £6 per day if you obtain a permit from reception. Our room was surprisingly large, as well as comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. The hotel itself is pleasant, although the front-of-house staff could have been friendlier. They were willing to help when asked, but often seemed a little standoffish and kept their distance. The lift was also unreliable. There is an inner door, and two sensors need to meet for it to work properly. They did not always connect, meaning the lift sometimes failed to operate. This could be a problem for anyone unable to manage the stairs. The drinks in the bar were very expensive — roughly double the price of those available elsewhere, including just across the road. Breakfast was okay, but not particularly impressive. I have had better breakfasts and, despite not being a chef, have cooked better ones myself. Overall, Old Hall Hotel has a lot going for it, particularly its central location, convenient parking and spacious, comfortable rooms. However, the inconsistent lift, expensive bar and rather reserved service prevented it from being an outstanding stay.

Summary: Pleasant old fashioned, traditional hotel in an absolutely perfect location. Although it’s been a hotel since Renaissance times, it feels more like a hotel from the 1970s rather from the 1570s. There’s a few remnants from Mary Queen of Scott’s visits but it’s not a significant theme. Quality of food in the restaurant - both breakfast and evening meals is both excellent and excellent value for money.

Summary: This hotel has no parking. There is only on the street parking. The receptionist was very unhelpful after we’d been circling trying to find any spaces, she shrugged and produced a basic map to parking options. Parking is clearly an ongoing issue at this hotel. They need to clearly let customers know. I would not return to this hotel and in fact would never have booked it knowing it had no parking. Misleading and dishonest.
