Summary: This was an exceptional rental. Clean with all the features as advertised. The host was exceptional in meeting all of our requests including cribs for the infants in our large group. This rental added to the enjoyment of our wonderful visit to the Azores

Summary: The house was the perfect size for the 14 of us (8 adults and 6 children ages 16 to 4) - plenty of space inside and out! There was plenty of living space on both floors and kitchens on both floors. The main floor had a large kitchen table with seating for 10, four bedrooms + a cubby with bunk beds and a full bath. The lower lever had an additional 4 bedrooms (the master with no door) and 3 bathrooms (although one bathroom did not have a toilet.)There were two full size refrigerators, plenty of dishes, silverware, towels and hot water (we never ran out). The property now has a good sized above ground pool area complete with umbrellas, a large table and chairs, swings and beach chairs. We were so busy, the kids only used it once. The location was good for us. About 20 minutes to Punta Delgada, Sete Cidades and Mosteiros; 45 minutes to Furnas and an hour to the top NE side of the island. Looking at the stars was amazing, if you can find and uncloudy night. They were so bright and the constellations were so easy to see. Good internet (although it needed to be rebooted a few times) and decent cell phone coverage. MY RATING WOULD HAVE BEEN A 5* HAD WE BEEN TOLD WHEN WE ARRIVED WHAT TO DO REGARDING THE PLUMBING. Now you will know, so you won't have the problems we encountered. We had a major learning curve with the plumbing which could have been avoided had we been told what NOT to do and had the septic been cleaned out before our arrival. After some sewer back-up problems where smelly water was all over the lower level bathroom floors (to which they did respond, one time even on a holiday), we learned you DO NOT FLUSH TOILET PAPER DOWN THE TOILET (there is a container in the bathroom to put it in. This appears to be typical for the island as it was also true for restaurants). We also learned to shower by getting wet, turning the water off while soaping up and then using the water again to rinse off. The drain system cannot handle a continuous shower. Coming from the US, it never occurred to us to do these things and there were no signs or write-up telling us what we should do. FYI, here are only 3 toilets (not 4) in the house - one of the lower level bathrooms has a sink and shower, but no toilet. This was not a major problem for us. All in all an excellent experience.

Summary: It was almost perfect, but the showers were very shallow and the water was leaking to the floors, which meant using the towels on the floors and washing them constantly. Another thing was the moisture on the lower floor, Dehumidifiers are definitely needed, the smell of the moisture is bit too much.
