Positive: This quaint small house was a great home base for our exploration of the Loire Valley. It is centrally located in the lovely village of Fontevraud l'Abbaye, just a short walk from the World Heritage Site. We enjoyed the classic feel of the town, the weekly Wednesday market, as well as the gorgeous woods nearby. With a rental car, there is easy access to many wineries and chateaux nearby.

Negative: The town is beautiful but very small, so there are only a couple of restaurant options (though they are fabulous!) and they tend to close very early. The house provides all the necessary amenities, so easy to buy your own groceries. However, the one toilet was situated on the main floor, down quite a steep staircase from the bedroom.

Summary: Quaint and Charming House in the heart of the Loire Valley.

Positive: This is an absolutely perfect place. It is set up like home, beautifully furnished with antiques and art. It’s great for cooking in with a fridge and all cooking supplies. There are towels, soap, toilet paper and sheets. It’s on the same little street as the biggest Abbey in France, a beautiful place to visit. We saw a night sound and music display there from 10-12 pm, amazing. The village is quiet and close to Saumur (champignon caves, pommes tapping, home of Triple Sec distillery, and a chateau and boat tours), Chateau Breze (with very interesting deep moat, caves and wine tasting), and Chinon (Sunday market and a must-see medieval town). We stayed 3 nights and wished we stayed at least a week. It’s a good base for many discoveries. There are wine places and a soap making place with museum nearby. We ate at a restaurant called Licorne three doors down - excellent! Make reservations.
