Positive: Thank you for opening your home, this homestay is a genuine and authentic experience of living in a Fiji experience. Mereia and Jolame are caring, and always made sure I was comfortable. Mereia is an amazing cook, the food was plentiful and very yummy. The paid activities organized by Jolame are great. Ori Island day tour a must. Fresh fish caught and eaten same day was awesome. Village very welcoming! If you want souvenir from island, take extra cash, ladies in village sell hand made jewelry items. Go with open mind and accept that village life is different and the Fiji way.

Positive: The family home is part of a gorgeous local village right on the beach. There is a chill area with hammocks & shade by the water. This is a true Fijian experience! The bed was comfortable, has a mosquito net & we ate some of the best food we had in Fiji. Everything was very clean & you are so well looked after not just by Jolame, but his family & the whole village. Can’t recommend enough!

Negative: Not a problem for us, but worth noting the facilities are very basic. Outside of rainy season, there is no running water so a bucket shower & toilet. The power runs off of solar so there is limited lighting & charging opportunities. No mobile service so a real chance to switch off!

Positive: Food was great and the island had activities that you could join. Village was welcoming.

Negative: Tried to overcharge me when I got there. I also saw a dead rat or mouse one morning in the kitchen. Weren’t the best for helping with activities.

Positive: Jolame and Maria are a warm, generous, welcoming couple. They treated us like family and gave us an entré to their lovely village on Wayasewa (Little Waya) Island, the second island off the mainland in the Yasawa chain. No resort could have given us the rewarding experience of meeting Fijians where they live. We had plenty of opportunities to snorkel and sightsee, but it was our encounters with neighbors who would ask where we were staying. "Jolame Homestay" was all we needed to say to start a warm, and remarkably deep, conversation about life on the island. And Maria's cooking is exceptional. She was able to prepare gluten-free food at every meal for one of our party.

Negative: I would have enjoyed a hot shower. But, really, this island visit was not about conveniences. It was about getting out of the tourism bubble.

Summary: We will not forget the hospitality of Jolame and Maria, and the wonderful Fijians we met.

Positive: I had a great time at Jolame Homestay :) Both Jolame and his wife are really nice people, their home is clean and they will take a good care of you! Also the food was delicious. I can recommend doing a hike to to the local mountain. Bina Duriki guys, I'll be back one day :)
