Positive: Comfortable, well-appointed rooms furnished and decorated in local style. The friendly and charming host, who with her (English speaking) grandchild, joined us at mealtimes to chat. The meals were outstanding - and a variety of dishes to choose from. Clearly, a lot of thought has gone into making this a top place to stay for visitors.

Positive: If you want an authentic experience of Local family life this is the place. Family were very friendly and welcoming. The family catered for our vegetarian needs.

Positive: Excellent central though quiet position. Very nice family of three generations. After breakfast I played some traditional games with sheep bones with the 10 year old boy of the owner. The boy speaks English amazingly well. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable, decorated with traditional wallhangings and carpets. And they are heated as the nights get cold in October! Excellent restaurant in the park, 10 minutes walk away. Very efficient and friendly young guy leading the local CBT. At very short notice he made a mountain tour to a ruined Oirat buddhist site possible.

Positive: We stayed 3 nights at Japar Guesthouse. The room was spacious, cosy and traditionally decorated which added to its charm. We had some issues with the water turning off but this was quickly resolved without issue. The guesthouse is relatively newly open so I think this issue will be sorted longer term. The room does not have AC but Japar kindly provided us with a fan (unprompted) on one of the particularly hot days. We didn't actually need the fan as the area cools down quite a lot at night. The family are very welcoming. The nephew Ibrahim speaks very good English for a 10 year old. He is a lot of fun to chat with. Mahabat is a wonderful cook and she invited us to tea/dinner on our first night and made a delightful shorpa. Breakfast each morning (also cooked by Mahabat) was plentiful and varied from day to day. It was all very tasty. Above all she was super friendly. The family also have a very cute dog. The guesthouse is in a very good location, around 800m to the town centre and marshrutkas. There are shops and restaurants nearby. The address provided on Booking is incorrect however the map location shown on Booking is correct. Please follow this so you do not end up in someone else's house like we did! Overall a very pleasant stay and we would recommend it to all. We wish this new guesthouse the best of luck going forward.

Positive: We stayed two nights in Bokonbayevo. The beds were much more comfortable than they look in the pictures. The house is special, built by the owners themselves, and has a lot of character. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming. They made us feel at home right away. Breakfast was tasty and fresh. Ibrahim and his dad are great at chess, and Ibrahim is especially good with people — he can talk to anyone and is also fun to play cards with. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this place if you’re visiting Bokonbayevo
