The village location and so close to the beach means that it is the perfect dog friendly Norfolk holiday cottage! Miles of walks from the door and all you need in the village itself, means you can leave the car alone for a week. If you want to explore you have miles of beaches and other interesting villages up and down the coast.

Kitchen/diner: A very well equipped kitchen with electric oven and hob, fridge freezer and plenty of cupboard storage space and worktops. Kettle and toaster and microwave. Wooden flooring throughout and plenty of room for the dogs. The dining table easily seats 6 and the 2 areas are separated by a feature brick wall. The sideboard has plenty of information on the area, games and a special information and fundraising section for the local seal colony. There is an adjoining utility room with dishwasher and washing machine and plenty of cupboard space for dog food. All the bowls and more are kept here for the dogs. Just off this is the …
Shower room: Walk in panelled shower, toilet and sink with cupboard storage, heated towel rail and window opening onto the dunes.
Living room: This is at the front of the house, beyond the dining area and stairs and both can be separated off by wooden stable type doors. The room is bright and very nicely decorated. There are 2 sofas, offering plenty of seating for 4, a large coffee table, plenty of books and a 43″ Hisense Smart TV with Freeview / Netflix. Winter evenings can be made cosy with the wood burning stove.
Conservatory: Just beyond the living room is the little conservatory, a perfect place to sit on a sunny day if it’s a bit too windy or cool to sit outside. Two lovely armchairs, table and lamps.
Back through the living room to the stairs which are a little steep, fitting with the age and style of the cottage, but carpeted and with hand rails both sides. There is the option to slot in one of the 2 supplied Dog G8s at the top or bottom of the stairs.
Front bedroom: King size bed in a roomy bedroom with a vanity unit – sink and plenty of storage. Wardrobe, bedside tables and lamps and views over the garden. Curtains have black out thermal linings. Windows have restricted openings but can be opened fully by pressing two buttons.
Rear bedroom: Double bed with hanging space and side tables. This is a smaller bedroom but this is made up for by the lovely views across the dunes and big skies. As with the front bedroom the curtains have black out linings and the window has a restricted opening setting that can easily be over-ridden.
ALL ABOUT THE OUTSIDE:
Courtyard: The front garden is a lovely long courtyard style area with plenty of room for the 2 sets of seating – one a picnic style round bench near the conservatory and the other is armchair seating under a waterproof sun-shade sail. The surface is stone slabs with plenty of plants. The fencing is solid wood all round and 6ft high.
Parking is inside the garage and there is space for one car across the garage entrance. Further parking if needed can be advised on booking.
Outside tap is located on the dune side of the house (ie at the back) and has one short lead to hose sandy paws and feet and a further long hose which is fed to the front garden. There is a small bistro style seating set here too.

Summary: For me staying with my two dogs, Jacks Shack was the perfect location, and perfect accommodation. Out of the back door and straight onto the dunes where my boys could run, walk, sniff freely off lead. A few minutes (or more dependant on sniffing) and you are at the beach. Jacks Shack is a very comfortable cottage and well equipped with lots of cups, plates etc. dishwasher, washing machine (should you need??) Totally enclosed garden so completely safe for dogs. Winterton is a quietish lovely location with just one pub, which suited us. If you want rowdy late nights, this is not a place for you!!

Summary: Norfolk (& especially Winterton) is perfect for our dog & therefore perfect for us. Jack’s Shack is located right on the dunes & so easy to get out for lovely walks, but also under 5 minutes to Poppy's tea room & pub which are very dog friendly as well as the excellent fish & chips shop & the corner store. The cottage itself has lots of equipment for both humans and dogs. The only niggles for us (being old) are the lack of a chair/stool in the bedroom (the bed is quite high) and the dim lights making reading & doing jigsaws difficult. Obviously having the only toilet downstairs is not ideal, especially with a sleeping dog on the way through to the bathroom, but it is not a big problem. It is a very quiet location - just the birds to wake us up and the bed is very comfortable (both very important to us, although the pillows didn’t suit us and the sheets were heavily creased). The heating also worked very well. The front garden is nice & sheltered & fairly private and it was good to have the loungers. The seating in the lounge & dinning area could have been better, but were OK. We found it disappointing that we could not access the cottage before 4 on check in day and had to leave before 10 on check out day, especially as we were only there for 3 nights.

Summary: Nestled right near the beach, this charming dog-friendly cottage is a perfect getaway for pet lovers. The outdoor area offers plenty of room for you to enjoy the sun whilst your furry friends have access to the picturesque beach and sand dunes easily. Parking available in the garage. Inside, the cottage is cozy and well-appointed, with comfortable furnishings and all the amenities you need for a relaxing stay. Dog amenities go above and beyond what you usually expect in a self catering cottage. (We have found this to always be the case at ERC) Our pup loved the nearby dog-friendly cafe/ pub. If you’re looking for a relaxed escape where your dog is just as welcome as you are, this cottage is an absolute gem! Highly recommended for both two-legged and four-legged travelers alike.

Summary: Jacks Shack was wonderful! We had a fabulous long weekend. Caroline had thought of every home comfort for us and the dogs, I have not stayed anywhere before where the dogs have been so well catered for. The cottage is lovely, calm, quiet and in the most amazing location.. we loved having the dunes and beach outside of our back door. I am already searching for dates to come back!

Summary: Another wonderful visit to Winterton-on-Sea and Jack's Shack. Caroline has provided everything you could need for a dog-friendly holiday by the sea and the welcome basket is the best we have received at any rental property. Jack's Shack is virtually on the dunes making it so easy for humans and dogs to go for lovely walks from the doorstep regardless of the tides. The Seal View is a perfect place to stop for a coffee and the fish & chips from the Winterton Fish Bar are the best around!

Summary: What a brilliant place to stay. Everything down to the last tiny detail had been thought about and implemented. We took our 2 dogs and they absolutely loved it, there was just everything that you could think of for them to enjoy their stay. Summary: What a fabulous place to stay, from the location, to the facilities to everything thought of for the dogs, we really cannot fault Jack's Shack. The kitchen was so well equipped, the bed super comfy with quality bed linen and pillows and everywhere was spotless and furnished to a lovely standard which felt very homely. The log burner was easy to light with logs provided. We loved to be able to walk out the back directly onto the dunes but still so close to the fish shop, pub and tea room all literally a 2/3 mins walk. Everything has been thought of and we are very much looking forward to another visit next year.

Summary: We stayed for four nights at a lovely little cottage (Jack’s Shack) which is right behind the dunes at Winterton on sea. Gorgeous beach, lovely little village, really cosy little cottage with literally everything you might ever need! I loved how incredibly hound-friendly this holiday was - the owner clearly really loves dogs and my dog felt so welcome! The communication before, during and after my stay (from the owner and from the East Ruston team),was exceptional, and I will definitely consider having a holiday stay with East Ruston cottages another time.
