3 Bedroom House in Hammond

This Historic Fort Stevens officer’s quarters, built in 1905, is bursting with character, from the charming front porch and original fir floors to the ornate tin ceilings and crystal chandeliers. A quick drive, or short bike ride on trails, will take you into Fort Stevens State Park, a 3,700 acre park with miles of ocean and river beaches, scenic hiking and biking trails, and a beautiful lake. The house is a two hour drive from Portland and a little over three hours from Seattle.
The space
Walk through the door of the Historic Officer's Quarters and step back in time. This house was built by the military in 1905 to house the officers and their families for the adjacent Fort Stevens military base. It is filled with fir floors, tin ceilings, chandeliers, and a grand entry staircase. The expansive front porch is a wonderful place to relax while looking out at the surrounding historic homes, and the original marching grounds that are now a city park. This is the perfect home base to explore the history and natural beauty of the Oregon Coast. We have an outdoor shed with beach toys, outdoor games, and bikes for riding the trails to the beach.
Things to note:
1. We have lovingly restored this historic home. It is the ideal place to take your family, or have an intimate get-together with a few friends, but it is not a party house. We are very strict about the 6 person maximum occupancy.
2. There is parking for 3 mid-sized cars at the house. We unfortunately don't have parking available for boat trailers or RVs. A few miles from the house is the Hammond Marina. Boats can be launched there and parking is available for boat trailers.
3. Our house is a strict no smoking house. Please do not book our home if you are a smoker. Please do not smoke anywhere on the property, including the front porch. Thank you!
4. We do not allow pets of any kind to stay at our home. The fir floors are very soft and dog claws can easily scratch them. Many people are very sensitive to animal hair and we want our home to be a safe place for all to stay.
5. We ask that you do not wear shoes in the house. We have places to leave your shoes by both doors. Please bring your slippers.
6. The house is a side-by-side duplex. There are shared walls. Please be respectful of your noise level. There are separate seating areas for each side of the duplex on the front porch. Please do not take furniture from the side of the duplex you are not staying on, that furniture is for other guests to enjoy.

Summary: My family loved this old house. It takes you back in time and is still laid back and comfortable. Very nicely restored! The location is great. Fort Stevens is a must see and take a quick trip to Sunset Beach.

Summary: Interesting accomodations. Lovely, clean home. Bring your own coffee, tea, shampoo and soap. All 3 bedrooms are located upstairs, which made it hard for my husband. That's the only reason I would not stay again.

Summary: We were three couples in our 60s-70s celebrating the New Year. I thought the house was perfect for us — immaculately clean, serene and uncluttered. We didn’t avail ourselves of the bicycles but some of us enjoyed a long walk on the Fort Stevens grounds. My only complaint was no ESPN to watch the Rose Bowl, remedied by finding a sports bar in Astoria.

Summary: Kitchen had everything we needed. The house was spacious. My only suggestion is to have a footstool in the kitchen as I am short in stature and could not reach the second shelves of the cupboard. The bed was comfortable. It would be nice if one of the bedrooms had a king. The Fort was fun to explore. It is a great home for a family. Not much in Hammond but Astoria is a short drive.

Summary: We had such a good visit. Fort Steven’s was so close and such fun for our grandkids. The house was totally perfect with so much character. Would definitely come back for another stay. JM

Summary: This is an absolutely charming old house, fun to stay in (in part) because it is just so gorgeous! Wood floors; high ceilings with decorative tile, chandeliers, and architectural molding; a lovely kitchen; and a big front porch all made my friends and I feel like we were treating ourselves to something special and unique. It was immaculately clean, and the beds were comfortable. The host was easy to communicate with, and very nice. My friends and I came because we wanted a nice place to stay while we attended the FisherPoets gathering in Astoria, which was just an easy 20-minute drive away. We would definitely stay here again.

Summary: Our stay in Hammond was lovely. The house was beautiful, well cared for and pristine. There were many cozy spots to relax in the living room, and on the large porch and front yard. The kitchen was fully stocked and there is a large dining room and a table out front where we ate all our meals. The owners included a shed with bikes for riding the many bike trails around Fort Stevens Park. The home is a short drive or bike ride from the beaches at Fort Stevens. I was pleasantly surprised that the beaches weren't crowded at all even though it was a beautiful summer weekend.

Summary: My family and I feel very fortunate with having spent time in this residence. It was very clean, nicely furnished, wonderfully restored, and the loving attention to details was apparent. We, four adults, felt very comfortable in this home and everything was set up to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
